Because the Legacy has the top safety ratings from the IIHS, which the Accord does not. Impreza's (inc. WRX & STI) are more expensive because of the huge modding crowd & their associated stupidness, but Legacy's are just fine to insure. Thanks for speaking out your ass today, we all appreciated it.Originally posted by: BlancoNino

For what they are, Subaru's are probably the biggest ripoff in insurance. Even their slowest, inexpensive cars are too costly to insure.

My GF and I both own Subarus and I find the insurance cost to be quite reasonable. A little over $100/mo. for both cars/both drivers and $500k full coverage with $250 deductible. It helps that we're both in our 30's with good driving records though.Originally posted by: BlancoNino

That always helps. It also depends on how old the car is as well. I'm 21, so obviously insurance is going to be higher. I'm insured (full coverage) on a 2004 Sentra at less than $100 a month. A 1998 Subaru impreza (with liability only) would have costed around $40 more a month.
I've also heard that insurance companies look at Subaru drivers like this:
less than 25 = Driving Subaru to race and be flashy.
older than 25 = Driving Subaru to be safe and smart.

$50,000 in property damage coverage
$50,000 in bodily injury coverage
$250 comprehensive deductable (there was little difference between this and a $500 deductable)
$500 collision deductable
$1041/6 months
That is in an area near New Orleans. I have just moved to Dallas and it will be going up to ~$1550/6 months for the same coverage.
What am I missing? I am 30, have a clean record, good credit, and I drive a truck. I also checked my rates on a 350Z and a Mustang GT and both were around $2000/6 months in New Orleans and would be closer to $2350/6 months here in Dallas.
Something is not right but I have checked Allstate, State Farm, and Progressive and I get even higher quotes.
The V6 Accord has 240HP IIRC, and is much slower than the Legacy GT. The Accord doesn't have as good safety ratings, that's part of it. Not sure if the Subaru's AWD plays into itOriginally posted by: ricochet

Doesn't the new Accord have a higher HP, which the article says is one of the determining factor? Not too long ago the Accord was also one of the most attractive car for theives.
Yeah, check my other post detailing insurance rates.Originally posted by: mariok2006

Ugh. I pay about $100 a month to insure my '03 Audi A4 with a $500 deductible, but I have 2 (not at fault) accidents and a speeding ticket on my record.
bring it up to a 1k deductible, chances are you wont want to use insurance anyway if the damage is under 1k! it will bring up your premium

That's pretty close to what I pay for 2 full coverage vehicles and I'm 24 . You are positive that your credit is good? Call a local agent and after they give you the quote have them explain why it is the way it is.

Wow, that sucks. Good luck dude...
Of course, in a just world they would clear your record, AND refund you the extra $$$ they've been charging you for no reason.
And then there's real life...
