Seems as though other than the Mercedes and the Jags they're all ricer-moddable/street-racer faves.

For what they are, Subaru's are probably the biggest ripoff in insurance. Even their slowest, inexpensive cars are too costly to insure.
I'm glad you have some knowledge to back that up. I'm a 22yo male with speeding tickets and the turbo 250HP 0-60 5.3s AWD Legacy GT is cheaper to insure than a brand new Honda Accord. Why? Because the Legacy has the top safety ratings from the IIHS, which the Accord does not. Impreza's (inc. WRX & STI) are more expensive because of the huge modding crowd & their associated stupidness, but Legacy's are just fine to insure. Thanks for speaking out your ass today, we all appreciated it.

Doesn't the new Accord have a higher HP, which the article says is one of the determining factor? Not too long ago the Accord was also one of the most attractive car for theives.

Comprehensive insurance for a new Lancer Evo in Israel would be about $6.3K for a year...but our insurance is totally different with no limit of coverage for both material (car) and health costs (that can reach millions if you're heavily disabled, but only up to $100K to your family if you die).

Maybe someone in this thread can help me figure out why my insurance is so high. I am a 30yo male/single. I have zero tickets or accidents on my record, good credit, and have never had a vehicle vandalized or stolen. After shopping around quite a bit this is the best I could find on my 2006 F-150.

$50,000 in property damage coverage
$50,000 in bodily injury coverage
$250 comprehensive deductable (there was little difference between this and a $500 deductable)
$500 collision deductable

$1041/6 months

That is in an area near New Orleans. I have just moved to Dallas and it will be going up to ~$1550/6 months for the same coverage.

What am I missing? I am 30, have a clean record, good credit, and I drive a truck. I also checked my rates on a 350Z and a Mustang GT and both were around $2000/6 months in New Orleans and would be closer to $2350/6 months here in Dallas.

Something is not right but I have checked Allstate, State Farm, and Progressive and I get even higher quotes.

My GF and I both own Subarus and I find the insurance cost to be quite reasonable. A little over $100/mo. for both cars/both drivers and $500k full coverage with $250 deductible. It helps that we're both in our 30's with good driving records though.
It still seems like you have no idea what you're talking about, as usual.

That always helps. It also depends on how old the car is as well. I'm 21, so obviously insurance is going to be higher. I'm insured (full coverage) on a 2004 Sentra at less than $100 a month. A 1998 Subaru impreza (with liability only) would have costed around $40 more a month.

I've also heard that insurance companies look at Subaru drivers like this:

less than 25 = Driving Subaru to race and be flashy.
older than 25 = Driving Subaru to be safe and smart.

Check the breakdown on your insurance. Maybe there is a lot of car theft in your area, so comprehensive is really high. Or maybe drivers where you live just suck ass so everyone pays a lot for insurance.

The V6 Accord has 240HP IIRC, and is much slower than the Legacy GT. The Accord doesn't have as good safety ratings, that's part of it. Not sure if the Subaru's AWD plays into it

Ugh. I pay about $100 a month to insure my '03 Audi A4 with a $500 deductible, but I have 2 (not at fault) accidents and a speeding ticket on my record.

bring it up to a 1k deductible, chances are you wont want to use insurance anyway if the damage is under 1k! it will bring up your premium

Not if you're not at fault...and even then, only marginally in the sense that you're raising insurance rates a bit for everyone in your area/model/etc.

w/my S2000, I had a $100 deductible and claimed everything that I was entitled to (1 $8000 robbery, 1 $3000 vandal-slashed soft top, 1 $1000 windshield hit by hail or maybe a rock, 1 $600 vandal-slashed soft top ). Rates never went up...

That's pretty close to what I pay for 2 full coverage vehicles and I'm 24 . You are positive that your credit is good? Call a local agent and after they give you the quote have them explain why it is the way it is.

I actually asked the person on the phone if my credit was an issue. She said that according to her computer I had an "A+" rating. I have no idea if "A+" is really a rating they use or if she was BSing me but I also have fico's in the low 700's so it shouldn't be a real problem.

I'm bringing this back up because I have found out why my insurance is so high.

I just called and interrogated my insurance company until I figured it out and the answer floored me. They have some kind of report that lists me as having 2 at-fault accidents. One each in 04 and 05.

The thing about these accidents is that in both cases the police found the other drivers at fault and reported it as such, and in both cases the other insurance company paid out on the claim. In no way, shape, or form was I found responsible for the accidents. Not even by a small percentage.

According to the guy at Geico, the other insurance company(s) must have listed me as at-fault and I will have to go to them and request that they delete the entry. This doesn't sound promising.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!890780!!!!%^&%@)@^!!!!!!!!!!!!!oneoneone :|

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? It's like an error on your credit report but you have fewer options for dealing with it.

Wow, that sucks. Good luck dude...

Of course, in a just world they would clear your record, AND refund you the extra $$$ they've been charging you for no reason.

And then there's real life...

In the last few minutes it had occured to me to seek restitution for this because it would be easy to prove that:

1. They reported my at-fault status in error
2. I have suffered actual damages due to this error (increased premiums)

Unfortunately, this is one of those things that isn't worth the effort.
