For what they are, Subaru's are probably the biggest ripoff in insurance. Even their slowest, inexpensive cars are too costly to insure.

I'm actually waiting till I turn 25 (this November) before I get a new (to me) car. I plan on getting something next spring, if my bucket Jetta can hold me till then.

That and I think the Outback Wagons are now considered SUVs, making them even more costly.

Funny, because every SUV i've ever had has been classified as a station wagon by my insurance.

I'm glad you have some knowledge to back that up. I'm a 22yo male with speeding tickets and the turbo 250HP 0-60 5.3s AWD Legacy GT is cheaper to insure than a brand new Honda Accord. Why? Because the Legacy has the top safety ratings from the IIHS, which the Accord does not. Impreza's (inc. WRX & STI) are more expensive because of the huge modding crowd & their associated stupidness, but Legacy's are just fine to insure. Thanks for speaking out your ass today, we all appreciated it.

My GF and I both own Subarus and I find the insurance cost to be quite reasonable. A little over $100/mo. for both cars/both drivers and $500k full coverage with $250 deductible. It helps that we're both in our 30's with good driving records though.

Considering the value, the wife's Highlander is dirt freaking cheap. It's a $30,000+ vehicle and only costs $400 a year for comprehensive with the second to highest availble coverages.

I would think Ferrari Enzo

Only 399 made and how many totaled so far? You can't really establish a replacement cost because what would you replace it with?

Ugh. I pay about $100 a month to insure my '03 Audi A4 with a $500 deductible, but I have 2 (not at fault) accidents and a speeding ticket on my record.

bring it up to a 1k deductible, chances are you wont want to use insurance anyway if the damage is under 1k! it will bring up your premium

That always helps. It also depends on how old the car is as well. I'm 21, so obviously insurance is going to be higher. I'm insured (full coverage) on a 2004 Sentra at less than $100 a month. A 1998 Subaru impreza (with liability only) would have costed around $40 more a month.

I've also heard that insurance companies look at Subaru drivers like this:

less than 25 = Driving Subaru to race and be flashy.
older than 25 = Driving Subaru to be safe and smart.

Here's what my State Farm insurance agent quoted me several months back:

Subaru Impreza 4 Dr (Sedan)

2005 Sedan $673 per 6 Months
2005 WRX $753 per 6 Months
2006 WRX $778 per 6 Months

Honda Accord 4 Dr (Sedan)

2005 Accord DX $457 per 6 Months
2005 Accord LX $493 per 6 Months
2005 Accord EX $521 per 6 Months
2005 Accord ULEV $553 per 6 Months

2006 Accord VP $494 per 6 Months
2006 Accord SE & LX $504 per 6 Months
2006 Accord EX & ULEV $570 per 6 Months

2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sedan $495 / 6 months
2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sedan $506 / 6 months
2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Sedan $516 / 6 months
2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Sedan $565 / 6 months

My current car is a 1997 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon. On my own plan it is $404 per six months with full coverage.
