I was browsing through the forums and seen this thread and I think i have one of these P4 1.7m processors, it was purchased new for an IBM P4 Thinkpad that never was needed . The stepping is SL5Z7 according to the receipt, not really any more info on the receipt. I don't have the cpu in front of me, it's at work. Can anybody confirm by the stepping if this is the cpu that will work in a desktop.

Edit for link to intel
SL5Z7

Found it at Intel's website, would this be the one

Maybe not m8..mine may be here thursday(8INXP) also im putting it in the Prommie so we will see how it does at -40c🙂

Also with luck I may be getting some samples of either pc3700 or pc4000 off OCZ to review and ofcouse these will be going in the 8INXP also.

I would galdly bow to BigToe as he takes the lead!!! But mine should be here Wednesday, I just wasn't gonna be able to put it in until Thursday!!! Now I may have to stay up late Wednesday night. The pressure builds!!!

Hehehe!! <----Evil laugh

Thugs, did your's arrive yet?
And did you see the spec sheet?

I found oneplace that had the 2.2 c1m's but I am not paying $550!!!

im sittin like a dog on my porch all day ~ no chipper yet 🙁

i dont see the point in getting a 2.2m since you will be running 12x mplier anyways.
we are at the mercy of our memory for the time being.
hopefully my 4:3 (underclock) ratio will work and ill be able to find its extreme top end.
i will not be adding any vcore above default until we have more info on its effects tho.

😀

I agree. Even if the c1 mobile could o'clock like crazy, we will still ultimately be limited by ram somewhere on the Granite Bay. I hope to see that you get yours up to 2.7 at least. If I can do that with the 1:1 on Gbay, I will be at ddr450, which should be nice!!! Really would be nice to see fsb of 250 and ddr500, but I doubt the processor (3.0 gh!!!) or the ram will take that! Maybe Bigtoe's "special" ram will do that!

PJ

I don't plan on purchasing a Granite Bay board any time soon, I have an Iwill 845PE board coming soon but from reading here it doesn't look like i will get a high enough FSB with a PE board. My best stick of memory is a 512meg XMS3200C2, doesn't look like have the right stuff for top speed for this cpu. Is 200fsb (2400) out of the question for this setup. Don't know much about the Iwill board but looks like a decent board

IMHO, you'd want to use a "spare" P4 to do this experimentation with. I'll give this a try if I have some time later this week. Hope you find this useful🙂.

Let us know how it goes😉,

Erik

PS. Here is a link with directions on how to wrap the pins.

ErikaeanLogic, Mikki

Here is a link for the P4M VID if your interested, it shows 1.750 ? 0.600 Vcc.

Go to Table 3, on page 16. Here

Hope that helps. 😀

oh BTW incase you guys havent been reading news...

the p4 800fsb chips are being anounced.
including a 2.4g (12x200fsb) cpu.

<and Mikki got out the 1st review before they were even released> 😉

🙂

Looks like the board may not be here thurs🙁...Im still going to put up a fair size review on asus boards even if i have to use my Twinmos or old sammy 333 till the new ram arrives.

Wow! I was getting into the threads so much so, that I almost burned hard boiled eggs...boiled off all the water...lmao. Good stuff...and not the egg salad either! 🙂

oh yea, theres always somebody showin up late to the party 😉
theres gonna be more P4m reviews then you can shake a stick @ this week.
the holy grail of 250fsb is within reach ...now whos got the longest arms? 😀

I put my order in for 2 sticks of 256 Corsair PC3500.I been reading the OCZ ram PC3500EL is the best out there. The review I seen on it hit 500DDR,stable at 490DDR at 2.8V:Q.I know a lot of people don't like OCZ and me included, but I was almost tempted to go with it instead.

anybody have any suggestions for keeping the core in 1 piece?

i was thinking something along the lines of the 4 AMD HS pads....

PaveGuy, thanks bud! I appreciate it...already got it tho...😉

Thugsrook, yep, Intel's way behind us as well as memory speeds...hehe :Q😛 ...and it's usually ME showing up late...🙂

ErikaeanLogic, lol!! No will-power whatsoever...hehe...peer pressure! peer pressure!! Good luck!!!! 😀 And I haven't been quiet, you guys have been busy!!! 🙂

ArborBarber, lol!!!

SCK, hey bud, how's it going?! Welcome to the party!! 😛

LastRide, I saw that too, but I wanna see more people use it before I buy....😉

Did I miss anyone? 😛

Thugsrook was kind enough to adjust his system to get the same specs as mine (except fsb of course), and give me some benchies to compare to mine. I posted them in the main thread...😉
