That system would kick butt at both SETI and RC5. The project for you to join depends on what interests you most: cracking encryption codes or looking for ET...

You can get the DNET (RC5 client) from here, and the SETI client for Windows (GUI) here and the command line client (a little faster than the GUI client) here.

TA has one team (by name) that runs many different projects. If you want to run seti, you can sign up and join TA that way.

I just got Seti up and running...it is flying. I really like the GUI...

It seems to be taking about 2 minutes to get 1% of a WU done...is this good?

Believe it or not, it may go a lot faster yet if you disable the GUI! There is also a CLI version of the SETI client that runs even faster than the GUI with the graphics off.

If you want the big numbers, you can just run the one instance of the text client (the "CLI&quot...

But... there's lots of add-on programs you could try if you want to see what you're processing (without taking up extra CPU cycles)!

Ok..sounds good. Where to get these "add-ons"? Also, does the GUI client go faster when it is minimized? I am keeping it minimized..

You might want to unistall the other one (I think that option is in the Start menu under programs). When the screensaver one is installed, it's automatically set to always start at boot, so it always gets in the way.

With the text one, just as a quicky way, you could start it by bringing up Windows Explorer, finding where you unizpped it, and double click. It'll open a DOS box and will go through the log in process. Then it'll get to a point where it downloads the new work and sits there. Just minimize and let it run...

As you become more proficient, you can hide the box and run it different ways with different programs (Setispy will let you start it up).

Ok..I am using the command line version and that SetiSpy program. It seems much faster with the command line version...these are the readings SetiSpy is giving me..any good?

Processing rate: 3.08 hour/ work unit (32.43% / hour)
Processing speed: 368.79 MegaFLOPs / second
Processing efficiency: 3.76 CPU cycles / FLOP
Floating point operations to process: 4.09 TeraFLOPs

Looks good! You will find that for the first half of the WU at least, the estimated completion times are a bit optomistic. They settle down towards the end. And I forgot to say... Welcome to the Team!

Usually with those monitoring programs, you want to give it some time to process and then you'll actually get more accurate results.

Setispy does have an estimated total time for the WU to complete and with that, we can determine how you're doing!

Those number seem great with the 3.03 CLI! I can't imagine 3 hours/WU with the new client.

Yeah, those readings are slowly going down...I will post the final reading when it's done...I've done about 17% in 46 minutes..

Hi Insane3D, welcome to the team.
I have 3 machines running seti for a total of avout 2.5Ghz and with the new version of seti it starts out saying it will do the WU in about 3 hours, it gradually recalculates until the end when it says it will finish in about 6 hours 50 minutes. That's on a 1Ghz P3 running Win2K with the Mosel cas2 ram.
Just so you have something to compare to after your work unit is finished
