i nominate Saab 9-2x or Subaru WRX

Woah, a recommendation from MIKEMIKE that doesn't involve an '07 Ta-ho? Hell has frozen over.
Both cars he mentioned borrow extensively from the GM parts bin! Isn't the 9-2x just a WRX with GM's badge-whoring expertise thrown in?? :)

i mention a WRX, which in no WAY shares ANY part of a GM vehicle...

the Saab 9-2x is a WRX wagon, with better interior materials, the STI steering ratio, different suspension, and some other small things...

WTF are you talking about? GM parts bin?

The WRX is wholly engineering and built by Subaru without any contribution from the GM parts bin.

So really the 9-2x borrows EXTENSIVELY from the Subaru parts bin. Get your facts straight.

Out of those two choices I think you'd be a fool to get the Camry. The Monte Carlo isn't as "refined" as the Camry, but it's a great car. Ignore the ignorant haters.

Impala SS maybe?

I 2nd the IMPALA. It's comparable to the Camry, unlike the Monte Carlo. Better yet--keep your 6. Then again, the car makers need people like you :p

I 3rd the Impala SS. It has a very clean design, unlike the Camry's hideous front end.

If you buy the Camry, you'll probably be driving it a lot longer than 3 years. They make great cars at Toyota.

Why wouldn't he drive the Monte Carlo over 3 years?

I third the Impala SS, I've had mine just over a month and WOW is all I can say. I was extremely skeptical of the FWD, having driven a 96 SS for 10.5yrs, but now having driven the 06 for over a month it simple blows the RWD 96 Impala SS away in every way except looks(but I'm liking the sleeper look of the 06 more every day). Nothing in the same price range can touch it IMO. The Monte Carlo is probably OK, I just don't like the look.

When a car is designed for comfort over performance....

the WRX as recommended by others will be a good bet...HUGE aftermarket and good car to build up. What about a slightly used G35 or GTO?

My mistake...I thought there were Delco parts and/or other GM electronics inside Soobie's Impreza/WRX (but I know the platform/drivetrain is 100% Fuji.) Also, I'm not sure how involved GM will be with Subaru going forward, seeing as how Soobie decided to align with Toyota.

GM sold of their shares of FHI, and Toyota picked up a few. no GM/Subby relationship

New Camry's are friggin ugly. They stole BMW's awkward 6/7 series trunk and decided to stick weird body lines in places they shouldn't be. The bloated suspension is set too high with huge amounts of wheel gap.

The '06 Monte Carlo is almost a complete redesign in & out. Interior is very nice and the exterior is very understated and looks great. The SS also comes with 18" ALCOA sluminum wheels that look great and while I think the V8 is a bit much, the car is fast!

I've driven the the Prix GXP with the same motor.

Honestly, what male who is the least bit oncerned with his image would ever consider driving a Camry?

So far the only thing that's come out of that is that they're building Camry's at the (former) SIA (Subaru Isuzu) plant in Indiana. So the same plant that built my car will now roll out Camrys as well.

Pass on the new Monte Carlo and get a used GTO. Don't get the Camry (or any other Oriental) unless you're 47 and/or castrated.

Otherwise the choice is a no-brainer. The Monte Carlo.

i actually JUST realised the Monte Carlo got a refresh for this year. it looks MUCH better than the old versions did interior wise, but i see NO reviews of it.
