Here are ways to get rid of the GREEN START botton in XP if you are bored or tired of it.

i'm using arha's (from ars technica) Rhodium Edge theme... i'm pretty sure you can find it at http://arhra.arsware.org it's pretty nifty. I do run the classic start menu though. too much of a pain to have keystrokes memorized on win2k and go to that funky new one. ;)

Is it manly to like/want a minivan?

i can attest from working for a mechanic for well over a year (and seeing the more of the nasty things than those quick change people "you mean you aren't supposed to use a wrench to put on an oil filter?")... minivans. They cost more to work on in terms of labor than the average station wagon...

    SoundBlaster AWE 32 (isa) w/ win2k pro

it is assigned irq5, so i'm wondering if the card isn't able to buffer enough or something? I'm not sure.

    SoundBlaster AWE 32 (isa) w/ win2k pro

I slapped the ol' awe 32 in this win2k box, frankly because it's all i had laying around, and payday doesn't come for a bit now. The problem is that it doesn't quite work correctly. I get sound, but if for instance it's playing windows logon, it cuts out at about 2/3 of that file (10 seconds?)...

P5A Owners: K6+ CPUs work or not??

i'm on a p5a with k6-2 400mhz running rock solid. It's not oc'ed, but that's because the chip isn't really friendly to that, not the board. so yeah. go for it... smoke em' if you got em! heh

HELP, deleted SCSI (UDMA driver) from Win2k and now i get the inaccessible boot device. how can i fix it w/o format?

have you tried popping in the win2k disk, booting from it & trying to do a repair? It may allow you to fix some problems from there, or at least get it running enough to get to windows & fix it... i've never done that though, so i'm not sure how you'd go about that one. hmm

for all you OC happy people with socket 7's (involving golden orbs and fun stuff like that)

I think this might interest you. hehe. I went out the other day and bought myself a golden orb. This for a socket 7 w/k6-2 400mhz chip... In fact the guy at the counter said i was the only guy he'd ever seen who wanted a decent cooler for a socket 7 chip.... to make a long story short, The...

    average temps for amd K6-2

it's running 2.2v core as well... this isn't really an OC friendly chip.. you might get 50-70 more mhz out of it, but for me that's not really worth it. lol When i ran the thing outside of a case (when i was installing everything & borrowing a friends's PSU) it was about 76 degree's in his...

    average temps for amd K6-2

I was just wondering what the average temeperature was for a k6-2... i got one, and i was just trying to figure out whether it is too hot, average or cold... it's 400mhz, and when i rebooted after 2 days uptime it said (in the bios) that it was @ 86 farenheit (i think that's 36-37C)... is this...

    Poll: Coke or Pepsi?

as for the battery post reply: I work for a mechanic and we have little aresol cans that say "battery cleaner" and that happens to be what we use for battery terminals... that and wire brushes. Pepsi is actually just as acidic in that regard, and Mt. Dew even more so. (i do have an...

    Win2K vs. Linux for stability

other than the time my sister blew the circuit breaker, my win2k server's been up since the first week of august.... wait... I rebooted sept 1. & i think the power thing happened in the middle of september. Other than that this thing is VERY stable. much more so than NT4.0 server. for...

windows 2000, do i need it?

i was recently discussing this with a friend of mine who was on the win2k developer team, (he's now doing whistler) & the general consensus is that on anything above 64 MB of ram, win2k will outperform 98 because of the faster kernel & better ram utilization. frankly i wouldn't want to...
