Hi Thanks for the massive reply!! The mobo's DMA channels are all used up on two other HDs and a DVD writer and CD writer, so I'm using an Aralion Multi RAID-100 PCI card to provide another two DMA channels for the other HDs. There is no array setup though. I have just used the evaluation...

mouse/keyboard freeze momentarily, then go back

This happens a lot for me too - it could be anything untoward that makes the OS stop and ponder for a moment: memory leakage, IRQ conflict... Someone suggested it has something to do with pipelining on the motherboard. Not too sure about all that stuff tho. It might even be something to do with...

When you start your computer it will say "Press F1 to enter setup" or something similar. That is how you enter the BIOS. Is that the bootup menu you mean? (In the BIOS there will be a page listing the IDE devices - which will typically include a hard disk and your DVD drive. If the DVD isn't...

    how do you replace harddrives?

(and then you can take out the old one again) The only way to copy data from one drive to the other is to have both drives installed at the same time. Unless of course you can backup the data onto something like CD-R or DVD-R first, then copy it from there.

    how do you replace harddrives?

The best order to do it would be as follows: (1) take out the old hard disk completely (2) install the new hard disk and install Windows, etc, onto it. (3) once you've completely set up the new hard disk, put back the old hard disk as well. Make sure you have the jumper settings right though...

    how do you replace harddrives?

If you install the new hard drive as well as the old hard drive, then just copy across the information in Windows Explorer. After that, you can remove the old hard drive completely, and just leave the new one.

    how do you replace harddrives?

That doesn't answer the question... New replacement drive? Or new additional drive? If you want to put an additional drive in, you will need a spare IDE connector in your computer. Just follow the instruction on that page I linked to above.

Hey all My PC started playing up this afternoon - just freezing every ten seconds or so, then coming back for a second (like it was tripping on a bad sector...?) - so I rebooted. After Win2K restarted, one of my data drives disappeared from Explorer. In Disk Management the entire disk was...
