try to plug just the burner in, with no dvd or anything connected to that IDE cable. see what it reports in the bios or if you still have a problem with it. Sometimes they are picky about position.

disconnect everything except the cpu, fan, memory, and video card. if it works, you probably wired in the IDE cables backwards or have an incompatible configuration on the cables (master / slave issues). when in doubt, take it apart and start over 1 piece at a time.

open the case, look at the chip on the modeom (biggest / in center) and type it into a search engine. You should be able to ID it from there. It might also have manufacturer information printed on it, allowing you to find the model#.
