RSD: Have you seen this link? THis guy Manhole's solution worked. At first it didnt but the guy he was helping had bad floppy cable. I'm not suggesting that you have bad cable, but you should check out Manhole's idea of using TAB approach it might...
I'm going to be lazy and not bother checking, but I thoght RSD said that his bios was seeing the via controller? Wouldn't that be a + for getting his HD recognized? I'm still not sure he had the right drivers becuase he never saw an option for installing a scsi device when using the floppy
Maybe I'm spending too much time in the various forums but it seems that the whole SATA issue is sucking up MAJOR bandwidth and is a GIANT sinkhole for time. I can't tell you how many postings I've seen about this at PCmech as well. I guess I just got lucky with my asus a8v mobo and WD sata...
Ok, one last gasp. google this VIA8237SATARAID.zip . It's a small file. put on all files on floppy (boot with xp, f6, etc. click 'S' insert floppy yada yada yada). If this doesnt' work I'll stop pestering you.
Ok this is my last post on this issue. I don't think you followed a previous posting I made to the letter:
Download that zip file (6 megs, hope you have broadband _. then open the driverdisk folder and put SATA AND PIDE folders AND txtsetup.oem on a floppy.
The worst that will happen is...

Not to beat a dead horse, but are you sure you put the right drivers on the floppy? You mentioned earlier about installing a controller but I said that it should have asked for mass storage device (click S) and then it shows list of items from floppy and one is a scsi device (the right choice)...
So you put those folders on a floppy-per my post?.
When you pressed 'S' at the prompt, you're saying the option to install a SCSI device didn't show up?
The option to choose controler is not right. YOu need to tell it that you are installling mass storage device and that the drivers are on...
Download that zip file (6 megs, hope you have broadband :)_. then open the driverdisk folder and put SATA AND PIDE folders AND txtsetup.oem on a floppy.
The worst that will happen is that it won't work.
The link I provided says that the 6420 is covered by the drivers in that ***310E.zip...
