It's like if I fired up my SCSI rig and the SCSI card did not detect a SCSI drive (disconnected cable or faulty cable or dead drive or whatever). I can press F6, use the right drivers, etc, but if the drive wasn't detected by the card, it's not going to help.
rsd, if the Promise is in IDE mode then no question about it, you should see the drive listed by the controller. And if the drive is showing up, then the Promise in IDE mode is your simplest route, from what I've seen of people battling to make an SATA drive the boot drive on this family of boards. My editorial comment would be "why bother with SATA in the first place," but it's too late now I guess.
