i don't see how both nissan and chevy can claim that both cars were on stock road tires.

as for the variance of 1/4 mile times for the GTR, there are so many factors in play it'd be difficult to replicate a single run. you can see temperature definitely affects the times though.

i think the v-spec would have a little more power and probably more spartan interior to make it faster.

Why can't they claim that?

of course they have the right to claim whatever they want, proving the validity of their claims would be difficult.

Maybe I'm not seeing the point of lying about the cars condition, but I'd imagine both companies have a lot to lose if they are found to be lying. Nissan for one released a press statement that the GTR was in complete factory trim when they did the 7:29 lap. I believe something similar was done by GM.

i agree that a lot is at risk, but i just can't help but think how easy it'd be for both company to make falsified claims since both runs are timed/taped by the company's photographers.

tires make a huge difference in lap times: acceleration, cornering, braking are all affected.

Didn't Chevy have these tires custom made for the car? If so, they might as well already be in the upper level of racing tires, so it's not like an upgrade would do much for them, I would imagine.

No, they're reasonably good DOT tires. DOT-R tires would make a big difference, and racing slicks would make a HUGE difference.

For real, couldn't you hear them????

I find this whole battle of fanboys debating a car without admiring the superb driving really funny.

Of course, they are excellent drivers with balls of steel to clock laps like those.

But then again, which racing driver isn't?

Well maybe it's just me, the OP was a great video to showcase that and somehow fanboys started debating cars.

I think he meant, does the ZR1 in general have tires designed for it, not the specific car doing the timed lap here. The answer is yes, the ZR1 uses a version of the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires which were specifically developed for the production ZR1. That said, upgrading to racing slicks would still make a huge difference.
