Zombie Invasion: What's the better strategic position?

Where would be better for a zombie-free refuge?

  • Top of a Walmart, duh.

  • Frozen tundra, mountain top, or somewhere else otherwise really fucking cold.

  • An island, preferable deserted and zombie-free.

  • The usual stupid poll option that translates to "I like cheese" that will get 31% of the votes.

I'm actually at a loss. Everyone always says "The top of a walmart building", but then eventually you'll run out of ammo.

Wouldn't the top of a mountain be better? Zombies seem like they wouldn't function long once the elements turn them into fleshcicles.

What about an island? Can zombies even swim?

I dont think zombies can swim.

I would go to Alcatraz. Bring a couple months worth of food and water and plant a garden (see sig)

Then wait for the whole thing to blow over.

some zombie movies have had zombies cross water (rivers or to get to an island) by walking on the bottom
other zombie movies have zombies avoid water, and they can't get across

so it depends

i don't think there has been a zombie movie set in the antarctic , yet
not sure how temperature affects the metabolism of zombies

you could last for several years on a nuclear submarine, except for food, you'd have to go somewhere and get more food, and you know what happens then, somebody leaves the hatch open or falls asleep on zombie watch and then a zombie gets in and you're screwed

Aboard a heavily equipped aircraft carrier[first choice]/battleship/destroyer/ or even a nuclear sub.

Can eat fish indifintely and carriers have water treatment and nuclear reactor that will last decades while being completely mobile. Doubt zombies can dig a hole onto the hull, they would have to climb hundreds of feet into the top[all other side entrances sealed or locked] and be completely exposed to weaponsfire. Also has jets and possibly helicopters for scouting or evacuation should things get dire.

I haven't seen a zombie movie where the zombies had a motivation to really explore many places. If you found an island that was zombie free, far enough away from zombie infested mainland, and had a decent, temperate climate you could just live off the land on your island.

Island - We need to know what caused the zombie apocolypse. Was it viral? Is anyone on with you affected? Did Hell fill up? What happens when someone on the island dies.. do they zombify?

Tundra/Arctic - possible, but you would be constantly looking for a heat source to stay warm and you would probably get sick on seal meat. But we still do not know how zombies operate in sub-zero

Walmart - Since the undead are attracted to what they experienced when they were living... this would be good. You would be surrounded by fat slow moving zombies... some in electric carts with no power. When food/ammo run out.. surely you can outrun the walmart zombies and make it to another walmart.

I would +1 to a Nuclear Naval Ship

I personally think Walmart is scary enough as it is. No need to hang around there.

I don't mind cold - but sub-zero areas after an apocalypse would be a difficult place to survive

I would be too worried about getting bitten by a flying zombie bird to ever feel totally safe on an island but its the best option in the poll IMO

As a Canadian, I feel the urge to chime in on this issue. The extreme cold should be enough to freeze them solid, every year there are news stories about elderly folks with dementia, etc that venture from home in the winter months and are later found dead frozen solid. I would think that zombie flesh would contain some type of moisture that would freeze if temps were low enough. then bang, jump on the snowmobile and smash em up!

Did you skip over this on purpose...

Zombies don't freeze!

Nazi zombies...damn!

Grab a bunch of ammo, guns, water, and non-perishable food and get your ass to the top of Wal-Mart. Slowly clear the store of zombies, then barricade the entrances.

you guys are assuming zombies are cold blooded

why are zombies feeding on human flesh/brains? just to pass it through the digestive track? or does it still get digested to make body heat?

are we talking slow or fast zombies?
there are actually 13 sub types of zombies
http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie_Types
1 Zombie Types

1.3 Fast-Dumb Zombie

1.11 Rage Zombie(Super-Pissed Off-Fast-Zombies-That-Will-Rip-Off-Your-Face-Rather-Than-Eat-You)
1.12 Slither Zombie
1.13 Dark Seeker Zombie

Nazi zombies equipped in WW2 greatcoats and survival gear... yeah they'd be a threat.

But the average stupid zombie with no regard for his own condition who probably died in a t-shirt and jeans?

They'd freeze. Zombies can't ignore the laws of physics.

Dude, they're ZOMBIES. The entire concept is pretty much a defiance.

Depends on the type of zombie really.

I will go anywhere as long as it's higher then the zombies, and hard for them to scale, and ooooodles of ammo and food...military bunker, or wal-mart works..or a military bunker, with a wal-mart that is on an island is preferred.

I'd pick an island castle in Europe. They're made for defense against better adversaries than zombies, and living in a castle would be cool.

Depends if they're created by necromancy or the more modern virus explaination.

If it's necromancy I'm finding myself a wizard, priest and fighter and I'll be alright.

Virus, natural laws apply.

Well in 28 Weeks Later, they are trying to reoccupy England. Though it already has zombies present. I would think an island where you could farm and raise animals would work. The issue would be how many people you have with you. More than 40 or 50 and it'll be hard to keep people organized unless it's a military unit or something.
