Zombie Invasion: What's the better strategic position?

Where would be better for a zombie-free refuge?

  • Top of a Walmart, duh.

  • Frozen tundra, mountain top, or somewhere else otherwise really fucking cold.

  • An island, preferable deserted and zombie-free.

  • The usual stupid poll option that translates to "I like cheese" that will get 31% of the votes.

For your poll choices:
1. Top of a Walmart, duh. - If the zombies don't eventually starve or they have some ability to problem solve, you are eventually dead. This is more of a short term position.

2. Frozen tundra, mountain top, or somewhere else otherwise really fucking cold. - Really cold = you die from either hypothermia or starvation. The cold should slow down zombies, but it also slows down their decomposition.

3. An island, preferable deserted and zombie-free. - Probably your best bet from the options you provided. However, zombies don't need to breath. They can walk across the sea floor to get to your island. If you have a wall around the island, someone to monitor it, a well-defined escape plan, and the right conditions for growing food, you could live a very good life this way.

I'd probably go for option 3, but after watching the 2004 Dawn of the Dead (great remake by the way) I'm not so sure. I still think it's better than the other two options though.

A Walmart with secure entrances and a barricaded fort inside just in case. Or a new prototype Lowes/Walmart...

So if the weather is going to stop the zombies, what's stopping the weather from killing you too?

I would say a place like Cabelas would probably be better than wal-mart. Tons of weapon and ammo, clothing, entertainment, and they usually have tons of non-perishable food items as well as their own cafeteria for perishable food items. You could last quite awhile there.

I would steal a boat .... a yacht or maybe a coast guard or navy boat!!! one with really big sides that couldn't be climbed by zombies.I might have to barricade the back a bit but.... Scavenge some guns. Pull into port to stock up on Gas, food and water. Most Marinas are locked down pretty good so there should be few zombies. Find some tropical bay in the Bahamas and chill out till they starve to death! That's my plan ......unless along the way I can find some privately stocked island mansion....

the more isolated the better, fewer zombies, fewer people to compete with. eventually you'll have to come out of hiding to restart civilization ..... but how long to wait? do they die of hunger? decomposition?
