Ordered mine online late this morning and got email back. Only hope that this comes through. If it does I can retire my Memorex CRW-1622 which has served me well for 1150+ burns and still runs like a champ. Looks like my Yamaha 8x SCSI moves to the second machine. Here's to hoping I get this drive and it performs as well as my old Memorex.

muffstah I noticed that guy too. He has a dozen listed right now that went up last night. Looks like he bought them early and spent today driving around getting his money back. More power to him, I couldn't gamble $3200 like that.

It appears I'm a day late.... anybody know if there are any more available on-line? There's a BestBuy in town but no CompUSA. I saw a 8x/4x/32x for $149 and not a word about the 12x/10x/32x:(:disgust:

Can anyone help me find one on-line (not on *bay)?

Microcenter Has this drive in stock but my local Microcenter here in Fairfax VA refuses to pricematch. They have a pricematch policy but I guess it is a limited one. You may have better luck than I did at your Microcenter if you can find one locally. I plan on calling their corporate number Tuesday concerning the rude salesman and all. I thought pricematching was to keep a customer happy even at a loss but these folks won't sell even if BB and CUSA will at that price. Kudos to all of you whom happened to get on this deal.

I do have one question, does this drive work with WinCD? My Plextor SCSI works with everything but I would kinda like the fast CD-RW speed to use as a backup for files instead of a Floppy or CD-ROM.

So far the drive is not recognized by this CD-R Programs - NTi CD-Maker Pro 2000 4.2.65, WinONCD 3.8 PE, HotBurn 2.1 and Dart CD-Recorder 4. Only recognized as a CD-Reader. Chances are that they support the PX-W1210A. So far I was able to burn even a 4X rated CD-R to burn at 12X w/out a problem. Firmware upgraded from 1.04 to 1.07 with Windows2000 went without a hitch, run program and rebooted the PC. Now if only the ID String can be changed to a Plextor 121032A, just like the Imation - Plextor, Hitachi - Pioneer, etc. Thanks again and have a Happy New Year.

<< I'm just wondering if we will ever see the $30.00 rebate before they go under like 3DFX >>

Ensure that you make copies of all your receipts, etc. I purchased mine from Best Buy. If I don't get the rebate, then I'll head to BB and ask them for the payment.

Has anyone located this drive at Staples? I was at Staples last evening, but the store I visited only had the 12/4/32 drive for $279, but they had the rebate forms for the 12/10/32 drive in the computer area.

OK, so I bought 3 the other day, on three separate receipts (so
that I could send a unique receipt for each rebate), and today
I came back to get my price adjustments. No problem. But the
woman would only do the price adjustments as one transaction, that is,
I now have one receipt with the adjusted price for the three
drives.

HOWEVER, she also gave me the old receipts back. They have the
price I paid circled, with RTRN and the date written in at the
top.

I talked to the Iomega Rebate 800 number this morning, and the guy
there said to DEFINITELY submit each rebate in a separate envelope.

Here's my question: Do people think there'll be any problem if
I send in three separate rebate requests, each with a copy of the
same receipt (showing 3 drives purchased) and with the original
UPC. That is, three letters.

Or should I use the original (non sale) receipts? I could easily
do this by masking off the RTRN note at the tops of the receipts.
Is there any chance Iomega would do a receipt-by-receipt check
to see if these transactions had been refunded (probably:
not a chance, but I'm just asking).

Scored one of these at the Albuquerque Compusa.

They had 21 in stock, looks like they sold out in the first 30 min as the shelves were empty when we left.

Also got the free belkin power strip (actually quite nice) and two free 10 packs of the Sony 12x CDRs and the $9.99 CD Stomper.

Three questions:

How well do the Sony's work with this drive?

How well does this burner work with Linux (vs 98) I have a computer for each....

How many replies until this thread reaches critical mass and crashes all of anandtech??????

Please send tells: trikster2@hotmail.com

I don't see why everyone is so upset at E-bay sellers. You should be upset at:

YOURSELF: For not getting your rear end to CompUSA or Best Buy on Saturday
COMPUSA: For not limiting purchases
IOMEGA: For offering 10 rebates per hoousehold.

If I had only purhcased 1 drive instead of 10, I would have paid about $110 for a great CDRW drive...instead I am going to get a free CDRW drive and make about $400 dollars(I have already sold 4 drives). Now which one of those is a better deal. Isn't that what this forum is all about getting the best deal possible!

Oh by the way... it is risk free as well. All you need to do is sell the drives at $147 to break even after E-bay fees and then wait for the rebates to come or if worse comes to worse return the unsold drives to CompUSA within 14 days(UPC still intact).

Why would you have to send the rebates in separately?

On the rebate form it states:

2. Include original UPC label(s) from your Imogega [snip]
3. Include copies of store receipt(s)/invoice(s) dated b/w [snip]

By putting on the optional (s) at the end of all of those, doesn't that imply that you can send a rebate for more than one in one envelope? There would not be multiple UPCs for 1 drive. :)

Best Buy sells the same drives and will price match to the CompUSA price and take an additional 10% of the price difference off.
