SCSI doesn't need burn-proof. SCSI is fast enough to handle burning a CD while using full CPU power and reading off multiple drives. I've ripped a CD, defragged a harddrive, copied another CD to a harddrive, and was working in photoshop while burning a CD at 12x on my scsi rig, no hiccups at all.

see, that's why you all shoulda gotton the 8x20 imation plextor package way back when 🙂 yes, there was no rewrite, but eh, $13 for a 50 pack these days?
 
Unfortunately, the Iomega 12/4/32 ZipCD had a $30 rebate which expired on 10/1/2000. Would have been really sweet with the rebate.
 
Yeah wje, if we had bought the drive on the first day of the sale, we could have had a 12/4/32 burner w/ burnproof for 169.99 plus tax. Unfortunately, I bought this drive on 10/2 and when I saw that on the web site I was hot! The only reason I did not get it Sunday was because the wife wasn't sure if she wanted it. 🙂 I love my wife......

It's actually been a long wait. I'd written them way back when the old 1X DVD drives were out. Last rumor I'd heard was that Plextor was waiting for the DVD-Audio spec to become final. Hmmm, a Plextor 16x minimum DVD-ROM drive that does DAE at 32x. Got to stop drooling 🙂

Not quite. It is possible to make coasters on a SCSI system, but it's admittedly rare. I've seen it done, admittedly not on a Plextor, though. I'd also expect that with 16x and soon 20x writers coming down the pike they'll put BURN-Proof on there for insurance, whether they need it or not.

By the way, anyone know at what speed those Iomega 12/4/32s rip audio?

scsi with burnproof? no iomega on this list? or tdk velo? looks current up to 09/20/2000.

burn proof is a good and usefull technology, your scsi theory is incorrect.
 
Many companies like Iomega rebadge and use drives from other manufacturers. It's possible they use the Sanyo although I did not see any mention of BURN-Proof drives at Iomega site. Sanyo does not sell their drives directly to consumers in this country.
 
The Zip Iomega and TDK both have the BURN PROOF listed on the retail packages with the asterick which if you search the box you find that it says that BURN PROOF is a sanyo electric technology.


 
So what about the TEAC 12/10/32= TEAC CD-W512E(B?)? I have seen it at PriceWatch for $229. Does anyone know about it?
 
That list isn't terribly definitive, since it's not a list of licensees. To make that list drives have to be submitted to them for authorization, so I'd don't expect that all BURN-Proof drives would be on the list - like the Iomega and TDK.

At least it shows the Plextor BURN-Proof SCSI drive actually exists.

What is the best burner deal out there right now that is IN STOCK, if I just want to burn music CD's quickly and efficiently? Do I need this FAST of one?

This burn proof stuff wouldve helped me recently 🙁

7 bad cd's in one day due to my own impatience,

Even with a c300a (450) 128mb and dual hard disks - plus a 10mb smartdrv cache - I clicked on my D: in explorer to look at the files in the root directory - bam the hdd worked and worked and worked 🙁 lost it 🙁

BADLY fragmented though

A burn proof SCSI model would be nice, but this cost is very nasty for ide, 230$ = ouch
