I never thought The Sims was such a simple game, it had a lot to play with and the first one was kind of hard getting a good family going, plus you always had the role-playing factor and it was just fun as heck to experiment.

I don't really understand the comparison, Spore is like "Introduction To Gaming 101", here we have an interesting premise and cool creative and sharing tools, in that sense it's a great achievement but as a game it doesn't offer much.

Will Wright really sold his soul to the devil, he is supposed to be in this to make good games, not for the money, even if he "only" had the sales of Half-Life 2 that would still have been a lot of cash. Sid Meier didn't become a walk of game inductee by making games for retards.

There was a point where no one knew how to play games, we learned and we discovered something amazing, people are not dumb, games do not need to be dumbed down for them, they just need to be appealing enough for people to want to learn the game.

Spore treats it's players like they are 5 years old which is a real shame and really does make me think less of Mr. Wright's direction.

That entire review had me bent over laughing silently so as not to wake my roommate.

Hilarious and wholly accurate.

Yeah, if shallow gameplay and DRM bullshit together were not enough for me to never buy the game, that quote by Wright would have done it. What a fucking lamo.

I bought Spore and I enjoy it very much.
I am not a casual gamer nor a hardcore gamer. I like fun games.
It's just a fun game.
Fun.
I like fun.
I'm playing Spore.

Spore sucked, Zero Punctuation is hilarious and awesome, Will Wright hasn't mattered since Simcity 2000.

In short, space stage notwithstanding, it's an "intro to gaming" for retards and 5 year olds.

As for a space sim, I've got Galactic Civ II and Space Empires V.

Maybe they should have released "Spore: Kids" and "Spore: Gamers" or something like that. Because the concept is really cool, you hate to see it die without being properly developed into something better than a few hours diversion for 8 year olds.

Meh, I suppose.
I was just making a point that a game can still be good and fun even if it isn't super hardcore or w/e it is AT PC gaming wants and even if it has DRM. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Space stage is awesomely fun. I can't wait for the promised expansion packs; hopefully they work the planet, plant, and full city editor back in.

Yeah, I'll have to wait for the expansion packs.

I was expecting a God game, not a kid-in-the-sandbox-of-gaming game.

losing his touch...or making shorter videos??

Losing his touch.

He simply tries too hard now, which becomes painfully obvious when watching any of his recent "reviews".

On an unrelated note: If the scores from other professional review sites are any indication, EA must have bribed an aweful lot of people.

PC Gamer I dont expect much from anyway. It was obvious a long time ago they sold out to The Man.
But I am amazed at how many other groups gave it good reviews and scores while most of the user reviews call it mediocre.

It's amazing how wrong you both are:

1) The last 2 reviews (Too Human and Spore) have been a return to form.
2) He's always talked fast, it's his trademark. Hence the name - Zero Punctuation.
3) The reviews are typically 3 to 4 minutes long so the Spore video is no different.

I didn't mention anything about his speech or the length of his videos. It's amazing how you claim I'm wrong about something I never stated or qualified.

What I was referring to are his actual critiques. The nature of them has gotten out of hand, and often times come across as forced. Instead of me nodding and laughing in agreement like I did in the past, now I just stare at the screen asking myself "why?".

Like I said before, he's simply trying way too hard to build upon what came naturally before.

It's amazing cos I fail at reading comprehension. I misattributed one of the 'shorter review' quotes to you when I was replying.

I still disagree regarding Yahtzee losing his touch. There was a rough patch where nothing was getting released and he revisited old games but the last 2 episodes are a definite improvement. He's always come at things from completely different angles so I'm not sure why you think it's forced all of a sudden
