I did recover with a couple CMOS/RTC resets along with 2 complete rebuilds. My machine is still not 100%, haven't tracked the problem down, however I blame current issues on AMD + ASUS. I hope to finish up this project tomorrow. RAM is stable btw.

My 5950X is going to my 10 year old, with a "downgraded" 1080ti. 100% happy.

Tomorrow I am giving away my 3900x to my grandson to play games. Along with either a 590 fatboy or a 2060.

A rebuild, 2 CMOS resets, and a hack later and my machine is back up and running.

Long story short: current beta BIOS won't boot without an HDMI cable plugged into the motherboard. Not a big deal, but annoying. I have DP plugged into my GPU. Once booted, it works fine. BIOS bug most likely. I need the beta BIOS because the release before is buggy and causes GPU related crashes. The original BIOS as well. I will try to take pics of the build at some point later today. Smallest 7950X workstation you guys will have seen yet. 😉

EDIT: Looks like there is a new BIOS available. Here I go...

And we never heard from him again.

Sorry, same BIOS/UEFI issues as before (except the machine still boots despite the fake “VGA” error, I just don’t see anything prior to Windows login) I actually got distracted, first by doing some productive stuff (Some software I compiled actually compiled in 30% of the time my 5950X took, the 5950X hummed along at 3.8ghz, however the 7950X had no issues with doing the same at an average effective clock of 5,556 Mhz (5.55ghz))

Then even more important: I played Factorio and lost track of time. 😉

As an FYI, you guys should absolutely not be worried about temps. My case is 2 12oz soda/beer cans tall and like 1.25 soda/beer cans wide, my 7950X hits 90C in less than 1% of my workloads (CBr23 and Blender were the only ones to hit 90C), and I guess there is the rub: worst case scenarios matter to folks like @Markfw who run their PC full blast 24/7. For folks like me, the situation is very different. Note that with a 12900k I saw the 230-240W more often then not while my 7950X has peaked at 84.4W in the 6 hours it has been doing stuff today. Intel and AMD chips appear to have very unique power/performance requirements.

Benchmarking these chips is going to be an absolute pain in the neat future. I suspect $ per joule of energy for a given workload will be the way forward.

EDIT: My machine has a 750W PSU fyi.

So i have finally 100% dialed in my memory settings... In the end i landed on 6200MT/s @ 28-36-36-28 with tweaked subs and FCLK at 2200mhz. (y)

There is alot of stuff going on in screenshot below, so i will break it up alittle :)

Memory performance benchmarks:

Full screenshot including the following completed stresstests:
  • TestMem5 with 1usmus CFG = 25 cycles -> 1 hour and 57mins
  • Karhu ram test = 4750% -> 2 hours
  • Dram calculator testmem = 400 minutes = almost 7 hours
  • And lastly almost 2.5hours y-cruncher with all tests enabled, updated version with latest AVX512 support for Zen4 (hardest benchmark there is for Zen4)

Time to update to newest beta bios and do it all again :D

Yes, BIOS 0801 has unofficially been released. I saw a small boost in read performance.

Great to see. Hopefully by the time the Ryzen 7000/AM5 wine gets fine, 2133:6400:6400 becomes the new sweet spot 😅 and seasoned tweakers with golden chips can go 6600-7000 w/ insane timings 😂

Hope more EXPO kits pop up, cause I'm really itching to build such a setup. Wish I knew what the ETA on V-Cache is, but I suppose if we did AMD would Osbourne the 7000X lineup even harder lol

The test was for the CPU "straight out of the box".
I know that, but... I want some pro to do a real study. I think I virtually no change in performance at a significant power drop. I would love it if they included alder lake and raptor lake too.

damn, this stuff sounds frustrating, as it always does. I'm just glad all you knowledgeable first adopter people are around to keep taking this stuff on the chin for a couple of months at a time every time there is a new platform, so that dummies like me can swoop in 1+ years later and put together stable, thoroughly-revised hardware and feel like every bit the hero when things just work out of the box.

I'm having a really hard time getting into the BIOS on the Hero, it works like every 10th reboot, anyone have any tips? Been spamming the F1 and Del buttons so far.
