VideoCardz speculates a move to 6nm chiplets. That may or may not be true, however, the reality is that AMD is launching late because they simply had no chiplets left to bin for Threadripper. and Threadripper 3xxx is selling just fine.

EDIT: There was a leak a while back about a Zen 3 TR part hitting at least 4.8 GHz single core. That is a pretty big deal, if true.

I don't expect 6nm ccds or if they do, that would be for all: Epyc, Ryzen and TRs.

AMD has seemingly confirmed Zen 3 TR Pro. Still no sign of Non-Pro.

So no Zen3 threadripper? Only the Pro version that comes with already built PC's? That's bad. I can't build my own system:cry:

AMD did sell the Zen 2 Threadripper Pro at retail later. They did charge a lot more at the same core count.

Yeah, it's sad, but money invested in this round would be invested in a platform with a limited future, so it's easy to apply a little sour grapes. It's beginning to look like if we get a TR refresh, it's going to be at least another year. It'll be interesting if Intel wants to take advantage of that hole or not. With pricing the way it is, it's going to take someone interested in another twice-the-cores-for-the-same-price move that AMD did to Intel just to get pricing back down from the stratosphere -- sadly that's not exactly Intel's modus operandi ;^/

Honestly at this point I wish AMD would let go of the Threadripper name and use something along Epyc Workstation instead. It's pretty obvious now that the time for cheaper Threadripper chips and platforms is over, and future workstation chips and platforms based off of Epyc are more likely to be as or more expensive than them. So just make them compatible and let Epyc Workstation be the higher clocked unlocked variant.

And now here's the specs.

The 1C boost clocks are much lower than what was seen in leaks. An early leaked benchmarks recorded a 4.8ghz 1C boost clock. Curious…

Hard to be a hobbyist when the time for 'cheaper' 'is over' :( From a marketing standpoint you may be right, but technically there would seem to be room halfway between AM5 and Epyc given that their core counts, pcie lane count, and memory bandwidth are ~4x, and seem to be destined to widen rather than converge. That said, TR was always a "what if we could" effort, and with component availability being what it is, there's definitely a reason to expect at least a temporary absence. I suspect that's the real reason we're not getting a TR this round.

That said, I have zero interest in desktop Epyc (server guys don't value half of the things that I do), so if that's the way we go, I'll mourn bitterly, but life moves on.
