ZCash/ZEC GPU mining

I'll have to try 9.1 then.

Yeah ZEC is not doing very well. Might have to go back to mining ETH, though ETH is severely depreciated as well. It's not a good time for crypto mining.
 
Optiminer is back, Linux users! I'm trying it out now. The new version is 1.1 and you can hit up the usual GitHub site if you want to have a look. I'll update earlier posts accordingly.

BUT

Zcash is dying, so much so that it's getting close to the point that mining it is a break-even after power costs for me. Maybe Optiminer 1.10 will bring it back into profitability on my rigs, but I'm having my doubts.
 
I'm having some problems with the latest Optiminer. The program itself is running fine, but nanopool is ignoring work being done by my Linux machines running it after some arbitrary period of time. Restarting the application within the terminal solves the problem immediately.

Not sure what's up? Maybe I need to try mining on a different pool with it?

Optiminer did add TLS support which I am unable to use with nanopool's stated SSL/TLS port (Claymore works for this, not sure why Optiminer doesn't), so I'm wondering if you need to enable TLS mode to get the latest Optiminer to behave properly or . . .something else related to that.
 
I did a quick test of 8 vs 9.2, and I still noticed those power spikes. It was spiking about 25w higher than it would with v8 on my 480. I decided to stick with v8 since power consumption is lower even if the hash rate is lower.
 
Anyone know if the Claymore Miner is storing data? If so, where can I find the files? Something is eating up my storage.

Hey, heads up for those with Pascal based or other recent Nvidia cards, EWBFs cuda zcash miner does pretty good hashing with my 1070. On version 0.8b I get about 410H/s at my OC of +125/+500.

I checked it on my 1060 and it's reporting about 255 sol/s which is a little faster than my 480, though the 480 is stock and the 1060 has a good factory overclock.
 
I'm currently retiring a couple watercooled GTX 480 and replacing them with watercooled GTX 1070... i'll post once i'm done
 
Claymore 9.3 is out for Windows and Linux. On my Win10 machine, I saw a maybe 3.5% increase in speed? That's a 290 + 390 (currently 1000 MHz and 1040 MHz GPU speeds).
 
i'm getting 375 sol/s for each of my GTX 1070 using nicehash miner (ver 1.7.3.11 which has nicehash EQM ver 1.0.4a in it)... stock clocks

Not bad, not bad at all. Too bad the cost to acquire one of those cards is so (relatively) high . . .

Oh! Optiminer 1.2 is out if anyone wants to try it. It has performance nearing that of Claymore's miner. If you are having power spikes or other issues with Claymore, it might be worth a look. Not sure if I'm gonna mess with it or not, but I might.
 
Equihash is currently averaging 750 Sol/s with a 1080 and 960 @ stock speeds (assuming I didn't jack anything up). Peaks above 1k, this is with the newest miner (1.7.3.12). Went from about .0035btc/day last week (on 1.7.3.10) to .0041btc/day, give or take. Nice bump!
 
That is actually pretty good. What's the power draw on that card combo? Or can you describe the power draw on each card individually?

I don't have a way of 'accurately' measuring this, but the intertubes has the following:

Electricity is cheap where I am (under 9c/kwh), so I'm not caring so much about the specific efficiency of each card, provided it breaks even or greater (which equihash seems to think it will at that price target, and I agree). Side bonus is it's keeping my house warm 😛

What are you getting on your 1080 by itself? I didn't think the 960 would be much good at mining.

Not positive, I could check the benchmark when I get home at least. If it won't get me appropriate numbers, I'll run it for a bit on its own and see what nicehash is reporting with it running solo. The 960 isn't doing a lot but it's still over breakeven vs the electricity cost and I just had it lying around heh.

I find that gaming power usage differs from mining power usage. But even if you were only using 284W to get 750 Sols/s, that is pretty strong. Using Hawaii-based cards, I'm burning maybe 900w to get 1100 Sols/s on one of my rigs? Granted that's a system total at the wall, so the two numbers are not entirely comparable.

So I ran it with just the 1080 last night for about a half hour, and while it's not 100% easy to show what equihash is doing (since it alters algos based on what's performing well at that moment), I got averages between 200-355 though, peaks in the 400's though. The benchmark tool has equihash rated at 410H/s, and for comparison it lists the 960 at 130H/s, so in theory the 960 should make up about 35% of my total hashing. I have no idea how this turns in to 700-800 Sol/s with peaks over 1k, but I can verify right now that equihash is showing that as valid.

I would expect that too, since it's no-kidding 100%'d for the entire time it's mining vs gaming's natural peaks and valleys. Having said that, I know the 1080's gonna be pretty efficient due to being a newer arch, although it is powerful. I wish I had an actual wall-meter to test this heh.
