z560s or Promedia 4.1s?

Ugh, I promise this is my last thread on speakers. I'm putting in my order tonight, and I want reassurance on what to buy. Basically I play a good amount of games, but I want good sound for music as well. The thing that originally made me decide to go Promedias (which would be refurbed from Klispch, btw) was that I've heard the z560 sub is totally overpowering and the sats can't deliver as good mid to high range.

So basically, is that true? Should I go new or would refurbed be ok (i don't care too much about cosmetic issues)?

thanks!

personally, i would go with the klipsch's. theyre $300 dollar speakers, and are very, very good, and its not everyday you can get them for $150.

I just got the z560's, and personaly, I am not dissapointed at all. If your on a budget and can't afford to go with klipsch, then these are the speakers to go with IMHO.

i would stay away from refurbished speakers, i would go with the z560s u could get them for 140 shipped at 2buystore.com

Why? Refurbished speakers are highly unlikely to become defective (unlike say, a MB or HD) - especially Klipsch.

My vote is for the Klipsch.

Kliptsch is a higher build quality. On the audio forums from other boards, a lot more poeple burned out their Logitechs more than Klips. However, most reported that they use it at near max volumes for hours (overheating teh sub). If you plan to do that, then go Klips. If you use it for moderate listening and crank it to full once in a while for shorter periods of time, go Logitech.

Overall the Logitechs sound is superior but their build quality is not.

I just got my Boston BA7800s. They can be purchased from Gateway for $249.99. Personally, I think they are better for music than either the Klipsch 4.1s or Logitech Z560s. Look for a review of the BA7800s at 3Dsoundsurge.com in the near future. Mark will compare them to both systems among others.

250 is way out of my price range 🙁 I have $200 to burn on speakers + a new soundcard.

So from what you guys are saying, the logitechs are about (maybe SLIGHTLY) less quality? Also, the sub can be turned down to a resonable volume?

Thanks a lot for the replies 🙂

If all you have is $200 for speakers and soundcard, then the Klipsch 4.1s are out of your range too. They cost about as much at the BA7800s, if not more in some cases. You can get the Logitech Z560s for around $130 and a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for $62 or a SB Audigy for $60 (newegg).

You can now sometimes get a Santa Cruz retail sound card at compusa for $49.95 with a $30 instant rebate! Orginal price is $79.99. I got mine for $59.99 at compusa after the $20 instant rebate so it was not too bad of a deal. It cost the same as getting it online sense tax was like shipping cost.

I don't think you are reading carefully. He is talking about buying refurbed Promedias, which are available from Klipsch for $149.

Amazon.com has a retail Santa Cruz for $41 shipped.

If you're going to get Logitechs and intend them to play at high volumes for long periods of time, keep em cool. The bigass heatsink that Logitech made isnt enough at high volumes.

<<Overall the Logitechs sound is superior but their build quality is not.>> Sorry but to my ears this isn't true. I've listen to the 4.1's side by side (so the same enviroment and same soundcard) with the z560 and there is a definate difference. Klipsch sound much better in the high's and clearer. I found the logitechs to be muddy. True they get "loud" but that doesnt make them any better than the Klipsch, cause they get loud themselves.

I'd get the Klipsch over the logitech anyday. You see threads about broken Logitechs all the time...but hardly any about the Klipsch. I think build quality and sound is better all around.

I wouldnt have any worries about Klipsch refurb. They have been fixed to brand new (new components). Plus they are covered by warranty. For $150...it's a no brainer.

I'm not denying what you heard, the "muddy sound".. but I have no problems at all with my z560's, the sound is perfectly clear even in the high ranges, at almost all volume levels.. I did notice when hooked up to a low qaulity sound card that they do tend to sound a little "muddy" as you put it.. but hooked up too my audigy the sound is Crystal clear with just the right hints of Bass... if you set the bass level all the way up, it can get REALY bassy even in songs that have very little bass.. but if your listening too that kind of music, you should not be maxing out your bass anyhow.

It might not sound "muddy" to you, but its likely because you've never heard the klipsch, and not side by side. Klipsch have a brighter sound and it's much easier to make out singers and words. It sounds more like youre there...than just listening to music.

I have heard the Klipsch, and deal alot with audio 🙂 One of my friends is a Klipsch advocate, and i do love there product, but side by side, with my audigy, I hear a very minimal difference, If you can get a set of klipsch for the same price as the logitechs, I would definetly do that, but I did not have that option, and do not regrett getting the logitechs in the least. 🙂

Go with the Logitechs man. I think they looks nicer plus you have a control center which is good because you can keep it at your desk and put the speakers anywhere in the room you like. Where with the Klipsch you have to keep the front right speaker in reaching distance to change the volume which IMO sucks. I would also look into the new Altecs I heard they where just a tad bit better than the Logitechs in sound quality department.

my vote would be Santa Cruz/Philips Siesmic Edge and Altec Lansing 641's / Boston Acoustics BA4800s for music

Klipsch 4.1s or Logitec Z -560's for games (not much difference between the 2 IMO, and yes i have heard them side by side)

Since the Klipsch 4.1s are refurbs than I would suggest getting the one with a longer warranty if your choice is between them and the logitech z-560

i don't think you can wrong either way. personally i don't like anything that's been refurbished.
personally i own the z560's and am extremely delighted with the quality... except for the wires that were provided...
the klipsch's are nice and you get what you pay for especially if they're new...
meanwhile like the other people said, get a good sound card... i'd go for the tbsc not audigy cuz it's getting really annoying to me w/mp3 skipping and driver support is getting annoying as well.

my two cents

good luck w/your decision

That sub on the altecs is WAAAAAAAAAAY too large. I'm going to be taking these things to college and 4.1 setups are already pretty bulky, basically im still debating between the promedia's and z560s. ugh. there aren't any good reviews that i've come across that pit one right against the other.

Edit: as for soundcard Philips Siesmic Edge is definately the way im going.
