I got home today to find a brown box at my door. Inside the brown box was a little brown box.

I opened the little brown box, and not much to my suprise, I found an X800GTO²!

Not a bad bundle. Nothing I won't use.

Here is a closeup.

Here is a look under the metal cover.

Back of the card, with the heatspreader off.

Ohh teh noes! Bad contact.

Looks to be the same deal with the front of the card. So, before even putting it in my pc, I wen't ahead and applied MX-1 onto the ram and core. Load temps were about 50c with 12 pipes, but I didn't keep the card at 12 for very long.

The flash was easy enough, I didn't have a floppy drive so I made a bootable cd. Worked great. Set the card to boot at XT clocks (520/1120), works great. I'll test higher in later posts. Load temps are up about 4c, but I am quite impressed with the stock cooler. The fan has no whine at all, just a "whoosh". Anywho I'll do some benches likely tomorrow, but for now, I'm going to go enjoy this card.

*comes back 10 minutes later*
Generals Zero Hour: 2048x1536 4x AA 16x AF: ~90-110fps
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: 1600x1200 4x AA 16x AF: game is locked at 45fps, seen it drop to 40
Halo: 2048x1536 4x AA 16x AF: ~100-160fps, depending on the map
UT2004: 1600x1200 6x AA 16x AF: ~45fps looking down from the top of a tower in face 3, with 32 bots, ~60fps in a smaller, inside map without bots, ~70fps without bots
F.E.A.R. Demo: 1280x960 2x AA 16x AF, maxed except for softshadows: ~40-65fps

Very happy. Back to games.

I could likely have gotten a bit higher, this is with an un-tweaked pc, without all of my background apps closed, with my system ram nowhere near it's max clock (210, it does about 248), and using what might not be the best drivers for 3dmarking. Omega 5.9's.

That is also completly without artifacts. If I raise the core 1mhz higher, it hardlocks, but I could probably do a suicide run with the ram a good 20mhz higher, I think, but whats the point? I think I'll likely tone it down to ~560/600 for daily use.

22nd overall for "X850 series"

Argh where's the AGP version? I went an ordered a 6800GT because there's really no better agp card for <$300! Damn you ATI and your PCI-E.

Seems ATI wants to dump all there exta x850 (X800GTO2) fast before next gen.

Nice Job with the flash and OC More Video fourm post should be like this other then the common ATI vs Nvida flame wars.

Honestly, it never even occured to me to compare it against an NV card. I am happy with what I bought, and thats all that counts in the end.

Thanks for posting your results so far. I'm getting similar clocks on my card, but my system isn't as strong so benches are lower than yours. Will you be trying some improved cooling and advising us of the result?

I got my card today and flashed it already. I think I may have a power problem as I can't get the core to go to XT speeds yet. I've had blue screens 3 times so far. Right now I have the core at 465 and the memory at 540 and it's running RTHDRIBL just fine.

I'll slowly walk it up and see what the limit is. Hopefully the Antec Smart Power II 380 I have coming helps with this. I'm currently running with an old Smart Power 380. Or should I try to redo the cooling compounds with AS Ceramique? Or both? 😉

I missed ordering it, it is ~$220 now which isn't quite as hot 🙁

Awesome for you though, Yuri! 😀

Good luck on getting it up there, Mega 🙂

I use a Fortron BlueStorm 500w, I don't know if a 380 does that card justice. Could you not afford another $20 to maybe move up to a 450w?

Nice results! At first I was wondering who the heck this was referring to himself in the third person, but you've put together a nice roundup - good pics 🙂 .

I paid $38 shipped for this power supply brand new. It's got the 24 pin ATX connector, PCI-e power plugs, and dual rails for SLI. It's more than plenty for one video card. And actually, if one ignores the the falsehoods of the power supply old wive's tales, a solid 380W supply is plenty.

Holy crap, did you just say that your power supply cost $222?

I've always had good luck with Antec power supplies. The old 380 I have "works" but the 12V rail is stressed. Hopefully the new does a lot better. The user reviews I have seen of this power supply are very favorable so I think I'll be fine. I just don't want to spend a ton on a power supply when I need so many other components. I'd like to get an X-Fi and some new speakers. My old Z-3s died on me the other day. 🙁

Wow...that card is perty. I'm really happy for you since you get the best bang for the buck card. I'm happy with my X850XT. ENJOY THE GAMING YO ! W3RD . ..
