she went to him privately and CONFRONTED him, that's not WHINING.

Again, spare me. There should have never been anything to confront about. Totally harmless statement. I hear worse on prime time TV. It's people like that that clog up our legal system with frivolous lawsuits.

Now THAT is probably the best reply I've seen in this thread. I don't know why I keep on beating a dead horse, since she DEALT with the feeling in the most appropriate manner.

I'll shut up now, both in this thread and in the workplace. Thanks for the humility -- I need it. :)

Let's pretend you work in a bank and your new jewish coworker walks into the room and you say to him, "Hey, maybe you can help us out. I hear you people can figure interest rates in your head..."

Let's pretend you are a receptionist and the new president of the company walks in the door (who heppens to be black) and you tell him, "sorry pal, deliveries are in the rear."

Let's pretend you work in HR and you say to a female job applicant, "So, how long do you expect to work here before you decide to have kids and quit?"

Think any of these people should/will keep their jobs?

:)

not only that, let's say that the victims in each of these cases decide to take it up with you privately and NOT take it to the boss, would you be bitching about it?? or would you just acknowledge you screwed up.

it's all these people talking about what a bitch she was that really pisses me off. i thought she showed remarkable restraint.

I won't call her a bitch, after all she's civil and handles it well. But I do think she's over-sensitive and easily offended.

I guess that is why I said "people like that"...you think? And do you know she wouldn't do exactly that if he slipped up a second time around her? You don't. Again, that's why I said "people like that".

You have now thoroughly demonstrated your inability to figure out what you did wrong. Somebody else in this thread recommended that you go to your HR department and view some sexual harassment videos. I think it's clear to the majority of posters in this thread that this is exactly what you need. Unless you want to commit career suicide at some point in the future.

If I were your boss, I would not have fired you for the first statement, but I would have fired you for this one. You're obviously a walking liability for the company.

I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just telling you that you have to realize that the company environment is NOT a friendly social setting. It has different rules, and even if those rules suck, you still have to follow them.

You see that's the point, you have every right to express that opinion, but you will never have the right to try and IMPOSE that opinion.

Hmm...are you incapable of comphrehending what he said? Do you speak english? "People LIKE THAT", meaning oversensitive and overreacting numbskulls that cannot distinguish an intended rude or derogatory remark and one that is a harmless joke.

I think it's clear to the majority of posters in this thread that this is exactly what you need.

Really? I missed that poll where you got that from. Perhaps you'd like to share the detailed tally that you culled from this thread and post it for all of us to share?

beat her with a stick and take her back to your cave dam it.

I hate femmists man! You know we live in a male domminated world. Just look at all the world leaders = blokes....... They may not be perfect but they are still guys You don't see many and I don't think ever see a majority of the world leaders being female. Why? We live in a male domminated world.........

I love it.....

I'm like that to some girls but the girls I know so its less of a problem as they know what I'm like joker, funny, sarcy, etc. I wouldn't be so forward or smart/funny thinking towards other people that I didn't know or that I didn't think could take it or what not. But if you see them cracking jokes and such in the same manner then go for it......

You dumb fighting whities.

Don't get PC on me. It's just a joke. I'm just sarcastically implying that you're stupid white males from the south who still don't understand racism and sexism and don't give a damn. I mean I'm sure you all know what she was thinking, as you have endured decades of being treated as second class citizens yourself. Damn her for simply telling another in private that she doesn't appreciate the comments. I mean you know how difficult it is to simply not make sexist jokes now.

yeah, you can get fired for less

The next time her and her female coworkers are talking about female-only topics like periods, birth control and child birth, and they laugh at you and say "you wouldn't understand, you're a man!" , Be sure to let them know that you're offended by their conversation, that you feel slighted and discriminated against by their remarks.

remind her of her coversation with you.

What's good for the Goose...

The PC debate aside, do you honestly believe women aren't into electronics? Do you think we don't understand them or know how to operate them?

That is totally ridiculous. You're talking about things that are specific to the female anatomy -- ELECTRONICS are products for consumers, male and female (you should take a look around my house, I have more gizmos than most men).

Now if the guys were in there talking about their ball sacs, prostates, and sperm, then that's a different story. And I do believe men understand periods, birth control (that's a female only topic? yikes), and child birth, otherwise males wouldn't be allowed to be OB/GYN doctors. Just because they don't experience periods or child birth doesn't mean they're incapable of understanding the processes.

Girls can use all this electronic stuff just as good as guys. They *typically* don't get all excited and as involved in it as guys do. But I know a couple girls who know their way around PC's or whatever just as good as any guy I know or better. My apartment's AC went out this weekend, I was like "Grrr.. what do I do?" and my girlfriend fixed it for me!

As for the original poster.. what a tard. It doesn't matter what your opinion of PC is or not - you're in an office, you're offending a coworker, and she was nice to you by not going to upper management or HR and calling you a moron to THEIR face. You don't like the way things work in an office, go find a new job w/o any women.

The "PC Environment" that exists in the corporate world today has gotten way out of hand.

The truth is that sometimes I'm honestly afraid to say hello and make eye contact with a female coworker out of fear it might be construed as harrassment. Ridiculous, but true. :| Women KNOW that they now hold the Trump Card when it comes to "office behavior"; all they have to do is say "I'm offended" and men must apologize and beg forgiveness...what a crock of crap!

An alleged harrassment is immediately followed by an investigation and even if it turns out to be unsubstantiated, you're still looked at "as an offender" and are watched closely...your leash is very short.

I long for the old days.

where did she whine.

Yes it is. She knows she'd get laughed out of any HR office so she whined about it as much as she could. She sounds like a pain in the ass, pity the poor fool that's her significant other.

This is the reason god made beer.
