This is getting to the point where I am going to skip using YouTube all together if they aren't shorter commercials.

No I will not install adblocker, I have no problem with ads. Just ridiculous ones.

i have never seen an ad on youtube. wtf are you guys watching that has ads?

I'd be more curious as to wtf you are watching since ads tend to be on anything popular, easy to categorize, from some company. The ones I see without ads tend to be user uploaded sans category

Adblock is awesome. I do allow certain types of ads through on websites I frequent, but adblock has made the general internet appealing again. No more in-text pop-up, expanding, flashy, bouncy, noisy, obtrusively annoying ads plastered all over anymore.

If a website puts that kind of really annoying stuff up I'm blocking it. That garbage makes me want to strangle a programmer, not promote the product/page/company/etc. Clean, simple, informative ads don't bother me.

Any video that has any popularity whatsoever. Hell, some videos aren't even popular and still have some kind of ad from time to time.

Granted, some ads have an option where you can skip it after 5 seconds (bearable), but other ads can range from 15 sec to 30 sec of uninterruptable time (unbearable).

ABP blocks them, thankfully. Forgot to install it on a fresh Win 8 install on Saturday, was annoyed by stupid ads like for Olay products on YouTube.

All of those are 100% blockable.. I honestly cant figure out how people on sites like AT still dont use ABP.

I think some people just choose not to use it, even here. ABP has been mentioned a couple hundred times here over the years, I'd bet.

I don't have an issue with those that make you wait 5 seconds and you can just skip... but there are the ads that you HAVE to sit through 30 seconds of that shit and it irks the hell out of me because I don't want to watch a commercial about vodka god dammit!

I had no idea that YouTube even had commercials until people started complaining about them. That's actually the worst thing about the removal of the YouTube app in iOS... it had no commercials, but the new Google-developed one does have commercials.

I also must agree that installing ABP is a good idea. If you have principles (pfft principles...) against blocking ads on certain sites, just whitelist them.

Loads of videos have ads.

Youtube users, if they don't get any copyright warnings, and if they upload several modestly popular videos, will be given the option of enabling ads for their videos, and receive a cut of the income.

You don't need much. I had about 20 videos, with about 10k views between them, when I got invited.

It used to be the case that the only ad option was small overlays at the bottom of the screen. Youtube then added pre-roll video ads as an option. In the last few months, they've made pre-roll ads the default. I usually turn them off on new videos, as they are annoying, but sometimes I forget. Generally, user ads are skippable. Even so, the income generated from pre-roll ads is MUCH higher than banner ads, so a lot of users like to keep them on.

Some corporate users, get extra options, and they can specify unskippable ads, or intermission ads.

These same corporate users, can also apply ads automatically to user videos which contain their content. So, if I were to upload a copyrighted music video owned by a major publisher, it would have their choice of ads, which would usually be unskippable, because of the greater revenue.

Any time I see an unskippable 30 second ad on YouTube, I know I'm going to be in a world of financial hurt, because invariably, before the ad even reaches the 20 second mark, I'm off to the manufacturer's website to find the most convenient way to order the entire inventory they have on stock throughout the contiguous 48 states. They're just too compelling.

Be reasonable people, serving all that YouTube videos must cost a lot of bandwidth / servers, plus Google has to pay licensing fees. Do you expect the money to pay for this to magically come out of nowhere?

Exactly. These impatient moochers have taken food off my table. I loose ad revenue because of them. :'(
