Spending a lot of time on the computer does not make one a computer geek. All of my coworkers spend 40 hours per week on the computer at work, but they are no computer geeks. They know how to use their specific software (MS Office, Hummingbird, etc), but that is all.Originally posted by: ynot167
Many of you, I'm sure, are on the computer a lot. Do you consider yourself a computer geek? If not, then what is a computer geek?

If you built your own computer than that'd be pretty geeky.

I don't think I'm a computer geek at all.
I started with the Commodore 64 in 1985, had the tape drive, used to borrow the friend's floppy drive to play games. I used a 1200 baud modem to sign onto BBS's and chat with people much like I do here, I would download games and play online role playing games.
Then I got a PC, a 8088 "turbo" (10 mhz baby!) with CGA graphics, learned how to work on that, built myself a 386sx, 386dx, a screaming Cyrix 386-40, 486, Pentium 60 (yes, I had to get it as soon as it came out), Cyrix 6x86-166, Pentium Pro 200, Pentium 2 400, Athlon XP 2000+. I had a cable modem in 1996. Voodoo graphics in 1997. I used to install blue LED's in people's computers when they first hit the market. Went to Comdex with my old company in 1997 and got to chill in 3dfx's lounge and play Quake on the upcoming Voodoo2.
Let me take that back. I am definitely a computer geek, and a technology geek in general.

I built my own, and I am proud of it.
I have a nervous breakdown if the power goes out for more than an hour
