Your voting experience

I early voted today. The poll worker said turnout has been very brisk and they have stayed busy all day.
Very polite and no one harrassed me while voting

This year we have touch screen voting machines. Overall they seem to be easy to use. User error would be almost impossible on these machines, but a couple of things could have been done better.

1. candidate selection review should have listed the candidates party with the name.
2. One of the races had candidate split across 2 screens. This is the only place where the user might become confused.


Overall it went well.

ahh, but hey you have touchscreens. Here in Missouri, we're still using butterfly ballots and fill-in-the-bubble sheets. Really archaic stuff.

Last time around we have paper ballots and black markers. That was a pretty easy system as well.

Nope. But I trust the bipartison election committees will keep anyone from playing games. I think the best solution is for the touchscreen app to not count votes, but to generate a paper ballot that can them be reviewed and deposited in ballot box for scanner counting.

I would prefer it if they didn't list party names with candidates. Then people who don't pay attention and vote on party lines wouldn't know what to do, which is fine by me.

I've only been voting since 1992. It was always cool, lotta friendly people in their 80s and 90s helping out I already voted this time around... used the early ballot for the first time. Hope I didn't screw it up. If I see lawyers coming to my door, I'm breakin out the 12 gauge

There's really nothing wrong with that system. As long as the ballot is well designed (some aren't; I don't consider the butterfly design to be a good design), optically scanned paper ballots are very accurate, and most importantly, produce an inherent paper trail.

I vehemently agree.

There should be no mention of party affiliation on ballots, even if one wants to vote straight ticket. This is not saying you can't vote all Repub. or Dem. but it forces the voter to actually THINK about who they're voting for.

This idea, in my opinion, can eliminate a good portion of the sheepish thought processes of voters.

Anyway, back to reality...

In addition, remove party boxes from voter registration forms and the requirement of belonging to a recognized party to get on the ballot - instead require X signatures. If you have a significant backing that wants to fund your campaign, so be it, but that should be the extent of it. The party system is way out of hand, and far too overreaching.\

He " was " a respectable poster but what I've read from him here since the summer time and getting closer to the election I'd have to agree with your statement. Really to bad. And his reply seems like a " personal attack " to me.

and I hope the rest of the voting public has a trouble free time as well. (D) or (R) I hope after this election we as a Nation can meet in the middle most of the time to work " together " to solve our Nations problems.

My girlfriend and I early voted yesterday and everything went well

Before we left, we went online and researched all of the candidates and issues we would vote on and we came to our own independent decisions (Ex. We disagreed on Better Roads & Paths 5 cent tax, Parental notification of teenage abortions among other things)

We arrived at the voting center and a couple folks running locally were there. My girlfriend (her first time getting involved politically) quizzed one of the candidates she was voting against (according to her website, it seemed the candidate [Paula something] was running purely on experience and nowhere gave her stance on general issues) and got some crappy answer from her. She was all giddy inside knowing that she made the right decision beforehand. The voting process went smoothly as well. Friendly folks though I was a bit uneasy seeing that they were giving us pens instead of pencils to fill in the bubbles. After that, we went out for lunch and proudly wore our "I early-voted" stickers
