People just need to learn to drink responsibly. Know you're limits and definately know when you're being an idiot.

"All the riots?" When was the last time we had a riot after a sporting event here in the US? There's been some incidents of fans getting out of hands (at a Browns game a few years ago when they threw bottles onto the field), but the only full-blown riots I really remember were probably 7 years ago or so when a bunch of MSU fans rioted when their team lost in the NCAA tourney. Even then, it was fans in the city, not in the arena, so what are you going to do, ban drinking citywide for big games?

This is what immediately came to mind for me. 🙁

I think they need to limit how many beers a person has at a sporting event, but as far as banning? No. The riots I think will still happen if they're a die hard fan.

heh do your eally think stopping drinking in the stadium is going to stop the riots? most people that were rioting came to the stadiom AFTER to party.

Oh yeah, forgot all about the riots at OSU. Banning drinking at the stadium in that case is a moot point anyway, since you can't but alcohol at The 'Shoe (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't been to a game there in a couple years).

Of course, you can drink all you want outside the stadium usually.

It is not just the riots but DRIVING HOME.. as well. Drinking and driving you know. 90% of people who are heavy drinkers or alcoholics drink to much at a game and try to drive home...

Drinking doesn't make people stupid, it just makes stupid people less subdued.

Banning isn't the answer. People are people, and they'll be stupid, end of story.

The US doesn't need to, it's something European and south/central American countries should consider though.

My thoughts exactly.

When's the last time there was a riot at a US sporting event? But every time someoen plays soccer in some other country it seems people end up dead...

i think those who are likely to start trouble while drunk will do so in any situation, sports or not.

No beer is served at Michigan Staduim, and no one seems to mind. Pleanty gets consumed in the parking lots before and after the game though. 🙂

I've been to a couple of Lions games and have witnessed fights each time.

At other venues though, I've seen people drunk, but nothing major.

no way. the only way I can tolerate a sporting event is by getting drunk.

but I have no problem with them cutting off alcohol 3/4 through the game or something, and I think the "family zones" are a good idea.

Baseball is so boring I think that they would loose a ton of money if they stopped letting people drink. I know about 3 people who can watch an entire baseball game without getting drunk.

I have to say people would adjust to it, They would not lose fans. as much as you think, And yes they make a lot of money off it at $7 for a $2 beer but that just goes to the vendors really. The vendors just pay rent, Which is high but they still make more money.

Many people go to soccer/football games for the purpose of starting trouble. Having beer would have very little to no effect on these people.

pshh.. the only thing that can stop us Penn State students from rioting after big games is the thousands of riot police that line the streets. 🙁
