After all the riots they have after sporting events I have to say 90% of it is from stupid people who get too drunk. I think that they may not ban it because they charge so much money for beers and they make a good amount of money off it, but I also think it will be safer and a better way for everyone.

I also never wanted to go to sporting events with my father when I was young kid because I knew he would get drunk off his ass. That is one reason to think about as well.

Sporting events I can think of...

NFL
MLB
WWE

Stuff like that...

I am not anti-drinking and all, it is just, you know people are a bunch of idoits and still are not responsible with their actions on drinking in public sporting events. Who knows I bet it may happen if people sign enough on it...

Your thoughts?

The US doesn't need to, it's something European and south/central American countries should consider though.

I think no alcohol at sporting events would be boring. A few uncivilized people should not ruin it for everyone. I think instead of a total alcohol ban, they should just stiffen up the laws and consequences for those who abuse the situation.

Actually, it wouldnt be a bad idea to ban alcohol in Detroit and Oakland. :p

being intoxicated in public is already illegal. enforcing current law would solve the problem without intruding on others rights to indulge in an adult beverage responsibly

"All the riots?" When was the last time we had a riot after a sporting event here in the US? There's been some incidents of fans getting out of hands (at a Browns game a few years ago when they threw bottles onto the field), but the only full-blown riots I really remember were probably 7 years ago or so when a bunch of MSU fans rioted when their team lost in the NCAA tourney. Even then, it was fans in the city, not in the arena, so what are you going to do, ban drinking citywide for big games?

Don't ban it, this country was founded on freedom and the inalienable right to be a jackass, and it'd be a shame to see that go.

If I want to drink 7 dollar beer then let me drink 7 dollar beer and go stick your nerf-coated country in someone elses face.

WTF? Preventing stupidity and rioting over nothing? Are you insane? Thats the whole point of the game! To go out in a mad frenzy afterwards, during the riots pickup some free baby formula and other groceries on the way home.

Maybe have a drinking section and non-drinking section?

Might work out for both crowds...

I don't drink but used to so I can understand wanting to drink at a sporting event since I've done it myself.

If the establishment where the event is at doesn't want to provide alcohol then that's fine with me - I'll just stay home. I'd only have a problem with it if it was something government sanctioned.

I don't think all the rioters are people at the event anyway. It's people at bars and at home who get really liquored up. It's sometimes difficult to get that much beer at a sporting event.

if they ban alcohol you will see a sharp decline in attendance. beer is the only way you can sit thru an entire baseball game.

I've been to many NFL and MLB games and never been in or witnessed a fight. WWE isn't even a sport so I couldn't care less if they ban drinking at those events. Hell, they should ban WWE. :p

Moderation is the key, not banning.

Ford Field has a "Family Fun Zone" where you can't have alcohol. I know this because I was going to get tickets to the preseason game last Friday, but the only tickets I was willing to pay for were in that area, so I didn't buy them (I wasn't paying $60+ for preseason Lions football)

Why stop there? I mean, think of all the "drunk crime" you can prevent by simply raising the drinking age to 25. Or 30. Hell, why not 65! Maybe bring back prohibition, as that obviously solved all out alcohol-related problems once before. Just like the War on Drugs and the War On Terror are both making us safer each and every day!

Please government, save me from myself!

I think if you banned alcohol at sporting events in some European countries....that would cause rioting.

The US is laid back in comparison. I've seen some drunken idiots but nothing worse than a couple of punches thrown (mostly in the frat sections at college football games) before they get their butts hauled out by security.

Agreed, and I don't even get into the stuff myself. Rules such as stopping sale of alcoholic bevs late in games (e.g. after 3rd quarter of football) sound reasonable to me.

I haven't heard of any riots here in the US that was directly influenced by alcohol (more like stupidity of a few and mob mentality that are the major influences) but there have been incidents though. I remember one story this guy ran over a child at a parking lot after the game because he was heavily intoxicated (apparently he purchased and drank over a dozen beers or something).
