My brother is a deadbeat drug addict who leeches off anyone he can find that will put up with until they are drained of all emotion and self worth. My sister is one of those "holier than thou" Christians who thinks she can do anything because god will forgive her.

Sigh....

My sister is a junior high teacher, and I am a soldier.

She's more "successfull" the I in the fact that she has a degree and is working on a masters, but nobody knocks my job.

My other sister, and 4 cousins are all still in high school.

My eldest brother is 30; He is a head-case, an addict, is still living at home and has no job. My other brother is 25; He is a head-case, he used to be an addict, he has a completely crap job but he does have his own house and car, so I consider him a success more or less. I am 20; I am a head-case, I am not (nor will I be) an addict, I am currently unemployed and looking for work. I am living at home, but not for much longer.

All three of us are underqualified, have mental problems, and have no ambition or motivation. I am the only one not to have attempted suicide and I am the only one not to have taken drugs, and there is a long history of both in the family too.

As you can see, my family is completely cursed and pretty much doomed to failure from the get-go. We're all failures, but so far I have a chance to be the best out of the three if I can pull my weight and get my own place pretty soon. This is a subject I think about a lot, and it bugs me.

Light years ahead of my other siblings.

Of course, considering my other siblings havent even been born yet (And most likely never will be) its really not much of a competition.

career wise I think I'm in a better position than my brother when he was my age. Though he was more involved on campus, I'm more involved with what I've chosen to take up my time. I guess I learned from a few of my brother's mistakes through the years.

Eh, my little sister's a much bigger success... but she's always gotten straight As, been on honor roll, etc. etc.

Doing far better at my age than my parents did, but it's not entirely fair since they chose to stay in Ohio and build a life there instead of moving to a place with more opportunity for work and advancement.

Too soon to tell for my sister but she'll do well enough I think. :)

In all honesty, I think everyone in my family is doing about as well as each other. We're all happy with our lives and that's the important part. :)

Don't buy into that "doomed to failure" mindset. Things are certainly harder for some people than for others, but no one is doomed to failure.

Just the fact that you can form complete sentences, use a semicolon properly, and use varying sentence structure makes me think you could do well in a job that requires writing.

I'm making less money than my brother who is 5 years older than me - but I'm in a much better situation...

So I guess he wins... .....for now..... *evil laugh*

It's all good though - just the place he is at doesn't really have much room for growth past where he is right now... where as I'm sitting in a huge corporation and moving up quite well...

Heh, yeah. In my defense, writing is pretty much the only thing I can do, and I currently consider myself a "musician" by occupation (but let's see anyone in these parts take that seriously.) I'm currently in counselling, waiting to hear from two therapists about long-term treatment, and once that's out of the way I plan to join the RSPCA (British animal protection organisation) as a volunteer, then maybe make a career out of it afterward.

I do have plenty of other skills, very marketable (mostly computer-related) skills, but I am underqualified. Going back to college, and maybe attempting university, is another option I am going to keep in mind.

I'm not optimistic, that much is obvious, but if I definitely don't plan to become a failure without at least going down fighting. I am Miasma, by the way, I needed a new username and didn't feel like bothering the forum staff. :) Thanks for the kind words, it's pretty odd that someone on the internet whom I do not know can make me feel better than my own counsellor.
