Changed the oil in my 02 Escape on Friday. Bought the truck in late December and put about 2500 miles on it since then. This is the first time I've changed my own oil and was surprised at how easy it was. I kept looking over everything and flipping through the Haynes manual I have wondering if I missed something. Used Valvoline "Premium" 5w20 and a Purolator filter. Maybe it's a placebo thing but the engine sounds quieter and smoother than before.
Last weekend I installed a new head unit (
JVC KD-R600. Drove to Chicago that same weekend and it was nice having a USB stick full of music to keep me company. There was a noticeable improvement in the sound even with the stock speakers still in there.

This weekend after the oil change I started work to replace the stock speakers in the Escape with
these speakers and to make it a little quieter (there's a decent amount of tire noise, especially on the freeway).
Got the
front and the
rear door panels off.
To make it quieter, I decided to try the eDead v3 liquid stuff and Teklite closed-cell foam insulation. I figured it'd be easy to put this eDead on, but man is it thick! I probably could have used a putty knife to put it on rather than a paint brush. I used two coats and the second coat seemed to go on easier.
Here is my not-too-professional job on one of the rear doors. And
this is a front door with the Teklite foam. I just used big pieces for now and I'll go back and fill the gaps later if I have enough left over. I can say that the doors seem to close with a more satisfying dull thud than before, but that could be more placebo action going on.
Sunday I managed to put a coat of eDead on the inner door skin (the metal part with the holes) and a coat on backside of the plastic door panels before I had to stop because of rain. I will probably only put one coat of eDead on the plastic panels because it spread a bit thicker on the plastic than on the metal. I still need to put one more coat on the door skin and then put a layer of Teklite on the plastic panel.
So right now I've got no panels on my doors. Claaassssyyy.
