Obligatory right wing "If you don't have anything to hide, why would you object to this?" comment.
Personally, I've always been against any type of RFID identification card. I may support the idea of "Real ID" that is valid in all states, and contains the passport information to be used in lieu of a passport, but NOT with an RFID chip in it.
Too easy to store information in them that a person may NOT WANT in it. Far too many ways this could be abused.
So you think controlling the masses is only the right wing?
LULZ @ the feeble old man.
LOL @ brainwashed little kid...
How many times during the Bush Administration were we told in reference to the domestic spying/wiretapping, "If you don't have anything to hide, why do you care?" That's just one quick example of the right wing brainwashing...IME, the "left wing" doesn't want to "control the masses," but rather, they want people to be able to do whatever they want...as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of other people. THAT is one of the core ideals behind liberalism...Of course, some folks believe that their way of life is better than any other...and prefer to be told what to do, where and when to do it...so this idea doesn't necessarily interest them.![]()

In any case in the near future I can see it mandatory that all vehicles have a sort of control on them like the onstar system. This would make car chases a thing of the past. Once persuit begins the police can kill the vehicle and lock the doors making the escape vehicle a holding cell.

This would be very easy for them to implement right now. The CAN system in most new cars it is set up with multiple small computers rather than the old method of one main computer. It has a lot in common with USB , you can add nodes/devices without reconfiguring the network and it only requires 2 wires for communication.
Some of the commands are pretty cool. You can really do just about anything to the car in regard to performance, braking, transmission switching points, but there is nothing in the commands for things like air bags other than a check status command.
Each node controls its own functions and passes the info to any node that needs the information and all nodes can access any information from any other node.
the new system that are supposed to be coming from Nissan have FlexRay that implements X - by-Wire. So no more steering column connected to the wheels, only sensor, like a game controller.
Back to the point. If police wanted to stop a car using CAN or flexray and the car had a cell phone modem built in, they could call in and only disable the engine node, but still leaving all the other things like braking, steering, lights, horn, working. With flexray they could actually take control of the car, lock the doors and then remote control steer it to the police station![]()
