Your Phobias

I was reading something recently where a number of people said they had an irrational fear of whales

My own are not too out-there:

Spiders
Heights

oh wait, I also have a fear of blonde body hair 😛 😱

What about you? No polling, because I hope to hear some of the less obvious ones, too 🙂

I have a fear of Graveyards/mosaleums. I have only been in them 2 times in my life, once for my grandmothers death and once for my grandfathers death. Other then that, I cant cross the thresh hold of the door/gate!

I get the shudders when I imagine scraping my fingernails along a bar of soap *shudders*. I can wash my hands with it and everything, but I just hate soap under my nails...

We have this friend who's a GP (doctor) and has a strong phobia of little boxes of buttons (as in things you do up shirts with). He also can't stand teeth (in the mouth or extracted).

Spiders & heights fears are genetic I believe and so aren't really phobias (irrational fears).

How are they genetic???

That's an interesting point. I wonder if that makes them more difficult to subdue. A "kind" relative once wrapped a pet tarantula in Xmas giftwrap in order to "help" me overcome my fear -- it did not work 😱

People in the past who weren't scared of heights or spiders fell or were bitten thus not passing on their genes. Those who were scared didn't so often fall or get bitten thus passing on their genes. Evolution...

I'm scared of my wife.
I'm also scared of standing under high voltage power lines for very long.
I'm VERY afraid of falling, but I'm not at all afraid of heights. I love being in a plane and I work at great heights all the time. At work I'm jittery until I'm tied off. After awhile I get my legs and stop worrying about falling all together. I think the weird feeling comes from the lack of depth perception. Once I can actually gauge the distances it no longer bothers me.

Spiders, vomiting, and diarrhea.

If I ever vomit while having diarrhea and a spider walks by then my world is ending.

If I ever see a vomiting spider that has diarrhea then...well...er.....

Mild arachnophobia. Mild fear of being locked in extremely small spaces. Mild acrophobia (stuff like very tall buildings or mountains).

I have mild claustrophobia.

A friend of mine is deathly afraid of talking on phones. She she hardly ever answers her phone or calls anyone because she's afraid she won't know what to say.

Large bodies of water, and large fish/mammals that reside in them.

Specifically, the prospect of being alone in an ocean or other large body of water and not knowing what is below you. ie. Open Waters.

I don't like talking on phones either, my brain just kind of blanks. I'd much rather talk to people face to face.

A list of most phobias: phobia list

A few choice selections:

Optophobia- Fear of opening one's eyes.
Phobophobia- Fear of phobias.
Rhypophobia- Fear of defecation (got to suck... so bad)
Tremophobia- Fear of trembling (catch 22)
Chromophobia or Chromatophobia- Fear of colors.

Good reading if you're at work on a friday afternoon....
