i really really hate it when its so dark i can't tell if my eyes are open or closed. i will get so worked up i'll start hyperventilating until i pass out.

centipedes and cockroaches

pissing in a urinal/toilet that hasn't been flushed. mixing people's urine has been known to spontaneously combust!

I've always sort of had an affection for extremely dark environments. But I feel that way when I think about being trapped inside a very small iron box with only one very small hole in it.

I get the shudders when I imagine scraping my fingernails along a bar of soap *shudders*. I can wash my hands with it and everything, but I just hate soap under my nails...

We have this friend who's a GP (doctor) and has a strong phobia of little boxes of buttons (as in things you do up shirts with). He also can't stand teeth (in the mouth or extracted).

Spiders & heights fears are genetic I believe and so aren't really phobias (irrational fears).

How are they genetic???

People in the past who weren't scared of heights or spiders fell or were bitten thus not passing on their genes. Those who were scared didn't so often fall or get bitten thus passing on their genes. Evolution...

Fear of heights is genetic, fear of spiders is not though.

I have a fear of clowns. I don't know why, but they scare me.

Does it have anything to do with when you went to the circus as a child, and a clown killed your dad?

Stairs. I'm always thinking I'm going to miss a step or slip off of one and nail my face on the ones above me.

fear of earthquakes and fear of being in a collapsed building (i.e. being on second floor while it crashes down to the first). my gf's old apartment used to shake everytime someone would run up and down the stairs. scared the crap out of me every day

fear of vomitting,

i also have a fear of heights, but i enjoy the exileration that comes with that (i.e. i love skydiving, rock climbing, because of the fear)

My most irrational fear is that one day I will be eating something and my teeth will break. It's irrational because I take good care of my teeth.

It is interesting to see where phobias come from, I remember being afraid of crabs and lobsters, and that my be because a crab clamped down on my toe when i was 3 years old.

Also, I used to never like mushrooms until recently and I'm guessing this stems back to when a proud 3 year old me informed my parents:
"I found mushrooms and I ate them!" 🙂
which was followed by them calling poison control and me being fed something that induced projectile vomiting.

I don't like spiders very much but I'm not super scared of them. Also kind of like meltdown75 said about being in water and not knowing what's below you.

Heights and enclosed spaces, plus I'm a mild control freak. This means that I really hate flying, btw. I still do it, but it's probably my least favorite thing in the world.
