My boss just prank-called me....I asked him to look on the back of his tower, near his printer port, for a blue monitor port. He kept insisting, "I don't have a printer!"

I told him to take his defective card and test it in a friend's system, he said "I don't have any friends."

I asked him where he lived, he said South Dakota. I asked him for his zip code and he said 76543. I looked up Best Buys in SD and found one in Rapid City. I told him to go there and get his card tested. He said, "I don't like Rapid City."

I did have my BS detector going off somewhat, but I'll admit he got me good with my shadow of doubt.

Not really tech support but when I worked in the computer department at Best Buy many mooms ago, I got a call from someone who had bought some floppy disks. He was complaining that the labels wouldn't stick to the disks and kept falling off. He was pretty upset.

I tried to humor him by asking if the disks were clean and if the labels felt sticky enough to work but I was having trouble not laughing. Eventually he wanted a supervisor so I gave the call to whoever was next to me. Was pretty funny.

Sorry guys, conscience attack.

Besides, it's at home. I won't even see it until I get home from work tonight.

I have it cached in my temporary internet folder. :D Ask them to do the same pose, with a little better lighting, this time without clothes on. ;)

Believe it or not, it's easier when you do it for a living than when you do it for family, at least some family. That's sure my experience, although it's been a while since I was doing it as my job. I had some people at my company who were pretty aggravating, but they pale (I think) when stacked up against my sister-in-law. :) We're talking about telephone tech-support here. Then there was my cousin a couple months ago, trying to show him how to change the boot sequence in his BIOS over the phone. I'd never seen a Phoenix BIOS screen so I had to coach him on changing the sequence, based on what he told me he saw. I explained the concept to him but we didn't succeed in the task.

When I was doing it for my job I swore I preferred more challenging work where you didn't have to deal with bumpkins, though. First time I did it the level of my customers was far higher. I was dealing with professionals virtually all the time, so it was way easier. A handful of them (one guy in particular) were difficult, though. That one guy was pretty damn dangerous, I felt. I think he just decided to try to get to me. He was that kind of guy.

I've read the first dozen or so in this thread. This is great and very funny stuff.

Edit: I take it back. This thread is fantastic! :D It's crackin' me up.

cant argue with that... LOL

Except you KNOW he was a liar (even if you can't say so).

reminds me of that one tech support phone call for some word processor...

The guy reported that he was using the word processor and it just went blank...

Long story short, after a huge long process of trying to determine the problem, the customer stated his power went out

The tech supports response to this was:
"You need to pack up your computer exactly the way it was and take it back to where you got it"

-customer: "Well what do i tell them? is it really that bad?"

"Tell them you are too fvcking stupid to own a computer"

The tech person was fired, haha

This is totally crackin' me up!

This reminds me of the first time I saw that slogan, Sh!t Happens!. A coworker was wearing the T-shirt. Must have been 1987 or so. I'd worked with him there 2-3 months (we were both due to be picked up by the union as permanent after 3 months). That was the last time I saw him! :D You know what happened.

I did call center support for Compaq for 1.5 years about 7 years ago now.

I had a bunch of strange ones there.

One lady started asking me if I every tried "cyber sex" and I was like umm, know that I could be monitored there I didn't want to have to much fun but let her keep going, she said "you never have, well this is kind of what its like" and she started talking dirty to me. I had to try my best to not laugh out loud just at the thought of what was happening.

Another was someone screaming at me as soon as I picked up the phone (thats wasn't rare) but this one threatened to sue me and my family personally because their PC hard drive crashed and their "whole business" was on there. Told them they should have back it up if their "whole business" was run from it. Duh!

Another guy called with some common issue so I just repeated the same fix I had done thousands of times before step by step walking him through going to control panel then system etc.. and he yells at me "stop treating me like a god damn idiot!" and I replied "I'm sorry if you feel like and idiot sir", he wasn't very happy, but I could give two sh!ts by that point.

Another person yelled at me because they said I sound like a robot, but hey what do they expect, I was just repeating the same with him that I've done a tons of times with a ton of people, was just mindless at that point.

There are plenty beyond that job but those are still some memorable ones.
I guess it just goes with the territory. Congratulations on surviving it.

Ya, the picture link doesn't work... Girls in bikinis, good. :)

I honestly hope that no one else hosts the picture. While it was nice, it was done without their permission and knowledge.

Guys, if you had really needed to see that picture, you should of been on ATOT during the wee hours of the morning ;)

hey, i wanna see the pic :p

anyway... i have too many to tell... well.. more that i can't remember them all, I try to force them out of my head or else I'd go nuts. But in general, I honestly don't know how some students make it into college, common sense obviously isn't a requirement.

coworker: "it looks like you have a nasty virus, our NOC recommends that you format your computer, then we can unblock you"
5 minutes later...
student: "yeah, i just had my friend reformat my computer, can you unblock me now?"

----------

me: "I'm sorry, but you've been blocked, you need to run blah blah blah..."
them: "ok"
*next call, goes to coworker*
same girl: "my internet doesn't work, what's wrong?"
coworker gets id, I notice it...
coworker: "well, nothing has changed since you just called us, you're still blocked and need to do blah blah blah"

sigh.....

I can't count the number of odd and strange calls, but I remember the shortest.

Me: Hello?
User: My computer won't stop beeping!
Me: Have you tried turning off the computer and restarting it?
User: Yes.
Me: Is there anything laying on top of the keyboard that would hold down any keys?
User: Um, hold on. ...... It stopped .... Uh, bye.

PS: I wanna see the pic! :p

Had an interesting question today...."Why can't it sort in alphabetical order? It just has sort by name, sort by size...."
