Frugal. I have student loans to pay off, a mortgae to pay off, home improvements to think about, a couple kids to provide for. No sense spending money on a vacation that only lasts a week.

WOW! I feel really bad for you kids.

I understand the need to be smart with your money, but I can't even comprehend the attitude that something that only lasts a week isn't worth spending money on. The memories last far longer than a week and most of my best childhood memories are from vacations with my parents.

My parents weren't even close to wealthy and money was always tight. So most of our vacations were driving trips and we spent a lot of time camping. But I will never forget how much fun it was just hanging out with my family for a few days, having fun, seeing new places, without the stresses of everyday life at home.

I can't even imagine not having those memories of family vacations.

looking at an 8nites Caribbean and Bermuda Celeberty Summit repo cruise out of San Juan in April 17...it's pretty cheap, just need to find a cheap one way flight to San Juan.

Yeah, family vacations were one of my favorite things growing up. My wife and I have a long list of places we want to see that we will budget for every year, even though we also have a list of home improvements, etc...

I'd rather be paying off my mortgage/student loans when i'm old than wasting away all my youth. It's hard to enjoy all that money you've been saving up when you are old and crippled.

Not all vacations have to be expensive. Some of my favorite memories as a child are from our car trips to places like Los Angeles, Tahoe, Yosemite and Denver.

But the destination was just part of the trip.

We stayed at Motel 6's. We had a cooler full of food and ate breakfast in our room and lunch at rest stops. We ate out for dinner at burger places.

We stayed at nowhere towns for days, but the Motel 6 always had a pool, so we were all set.

Those were great vacations and most of my early memories of my life are from those trips.

My kids have been to Hawaii, Israel, Dubai, China and Japan, to name a few, but I feel a little sad that we have not done any car trips. I gotta work on that.

Those of you going to vegas.. you can get a free party bus to Spearmint Rhino and skip the cover charge ($50) if you have a group of people. Just found out first hand on Friday when I was there

Vegas & Sedona in March

My big vacation this year will be in Washington. I'm climbing Mt. Rainier again, but this time with 8 of my friends. I can't wait.

I've never been on a vacation, and have no plans to go on one in the future. Not that I wouldn't enjoy it, my family just never had the money, and I still don't.

USAV Nationals are in Pheonix this year, so probably 5 days there playing volleyball during the day, partying hard at night.

Going to the Disney Compound in Florida with the family for 5 days, mom paid for airfare and hotel 🙂

Probably going to Raleigh for a long weekend as well, my father is possibly getting married.

Trying to plan a trip to somewhere fancy for a mancation, but we'll see if anything pans out.

Next big vacation we have planned is taking the kids to Disneyworld around mid-May 2011.

Prior to that we'll probably take a couple small trips to the Twin Cities, Black Hills, Omaha.

that sounds sad

My mom (50 this year) is leaving in a week for her first true vacation, besides her honeymoon, which was her and my dad driving around Ontario/New York. She won a trip to Mexico through her work.

However, I'm still a student, so I have plenty of time yet to travel.

End of May we plan to either go to Vegas for 4-5 days, or maybe a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean.

I have the last two weeks of February off, but we will see if I end up actually going somewhere or if I just stay in town. :hmm: I'm leaning towards the latter as I have some stuff to do around the house.

Edit: going to be a pain in the ass driving to and from the hardware store during that time. Stupid Olympics. 😡

I almost forgot. We are going to San Diego for a weekend at the end of this month for my wife and sister-in-law's birthdays.

Yes, they are twins 😉

(Before you ask, you can find pics of my wife very easily on ATOT.)

trying to get out to france for bastille day (which also happens to be my birthday).

im also considering going back to hike mt. whitney again. i was pleasantly surprised with how well i did last year and now i want to go back and try and improve on my summit time.

I just got back from a vacation (Taiwan-Korea mega trip) about 2 months ago. Oh ya, we had a forced vacation over Christmas break (forced to take 6 days off of our vacation days, but no worries, i get about 1-2months vacation per year). During that time, I went to Virginia, encountered that insane snow storm and wondered wtf was that. I've never encountered a snow storm of that magnitude in my life, nor encountered that kind of cold weather in my life wtf ..seriously how do you guys live out there? you crazy guys. <--- (Lived in southern california all his life). Heh, my brother's gf flipped her car on the road on the 2nd day I was there. When we arrived at the scene, I was promptly greeted with a "welcome to virginia!" by the local cop haha. I guess flipping your car over in the snow is like some sort of initiation for you crazy Virginians. 😛

In two weeks, I embark on yet another one. I'm staying in New Zealand for about a week and a half (Wellington, and the northern part of the south island). After working literally on the Pacific ocean on a mofo'ing boat for almost 3 months, our vessel will drop me off in Taiwan, where I plan on to have some vacation time for about two weeks.

My mother works down in the 711 on Granville and Drake. She's not even sure how she's going to manage getting to work and back the weeks of the Olympics. Vancouver certainly isn't the best laid out city in terms of road service but they went overboard on the route closures! How do they expect people to do business if they can't get easily from point A to B? 😡
