i like insects. i leave the spiders in my house alone (ones that i know are harmless, anyway. if im not sure, its dead just to be safe), and when i find others like crickets, beetles, grasshoppers, etc. i try to catch and release them.

ill kill any roach on site tho. i hate those bastards.

Spiders. any kind. (i know its stupid ) But, i get bitten all the time by them and wake up atleast 4 days per week with at least one spider bite somewhere on my body.

I hate them. and since we don't have a basement, there are a lot of them around.

The only time I have a problem with spiders is if it's dark in my room and I just happen to open my eyes and see one like...run behind my dresser or bed or something like that. I hate not knowing where they are when I'm trying to sleep...

This would scare the CRAP outta me

These bastards can run at 30MPH!

No they can't, and they also aren't that big. At their largest, they're around 6" across. They are also in no way poisoness. There are just a lot of myths about them, because they're incredibly freaky looking.
Look at the pic, and you can see the sleeve of the guy holding the bug up. Looks right about 6" to me.

And they do move rather fast, and often do give chase to larger creatures as a defense mechanism, like many spiders.

I meant in the general sense. A lot of people seem to think they're massive, when in reality, they aren't that big at all.

6 inches is still pretty big to me! :Q I'd definitely wouldn't want to accidentally stumble across one of those in my house.

Scorpions are insects, right? They scare me and can make you really sick or worse.
Whats the big deal w/spiders? They help us my killing other bugs. They are on our side imho.

It would have to be hornets or wasps. When I lived in Florida there were these nasty looking brown bugs about 2-3 inches long with massive pinchers on their heads. I have no idea what they were but they were scary looking. Worst thing was they seemed to like to hang around in public restrooms.:Q

Yep. These freak me out more than anything. I lived in an apt infested with these things. They make me stand up on top of my chair if I see them running across the floor.

Earwigs. I used to get pinched by those things all the times when I was kid. Everytime I un-tarp the lawnmower a buttload of them fall out. I then mow them down.

Nope, neither scorpions nor spiders are insects. Insects have 3-segmented bodies and six legs. Spiders and scorpions are arachnids, bodies with 2 segments and eight legs.

You're right about spiders being beneficial though. They might creep people out, but they're the most important insect control on earth. If not for them we'd be overrun with other more dangerous bugs.

Black widow spider. I caught one the other day in my back yard. Hard to believe something so tiny can kill.
Yeah, but same for all spiders....the likelyhood of being bitten and them secreting enough venom to give you more than a bruise is doubtful. Spider venom is approximately 5 times more potent than snake venom, but there just isn't as much of it and their small fangs usually cannot penetrate our fatty tissue (especially in america) for the venom to go directly into our bloodstream.

Correct about the venom statement. The black widow's bite has been greatly exaggerated by the media. Their bites rarely lead to death of healthy adults but can be very painful. The brown recluse, which was mentioned earlier, is much more deadly in terms of the toxicity of its venom. Bullet ant bites/stings are also at the top of the list of pain.

Of course spiders aren't insects, but IMHO the black widow is more fearsome. Brown Recluse's pretty much look like a lot of brown spiders, and where is live in Florida are rare. I've had far too many black widow close calls to think of any other spider as more fearful to me. By far worst of all was the time a group of people and I were loading up large bales of hay from a field into a trailer, and found the field was infested with black widow spiders. Literally each hay bale had over a dozen visible on its surface, and looking down at the ground you saw one every few feet. Suffice it to say I didn't stick around long.

Also, as far as I know the brown recluse venom attacks muscle tissue causing a very painful but limited bite. The black widow's venom attacks the brain and nervous system, causing a less painful but much more immediately threatening bite if enough venom was injected (recluse's main danger would be from secondary infections).
