Your lap children are now taxed

I'll keep it short (don't want to overload ATOT collective brain cells)

Bought a vacation package for the family to Mexico.
Called the airline (Virgin America) to let them know we'll have lap child.
Lap children fly free.
But if they fly internationally, they are taxed.
Tax is $12 for the child.

My mind, it boggles.
 
You're just damn lucky they even allow lap children.

In my opinion there is absolutely no reason it should be legal
 
You paying $12 to Virgin Air to transport a separate human being you brought into the world hundreds of miles to another part of the world vs. the very real possibility of your infant crying and impinging on the quality of the flight for all the other full paying passengers around you?

Seems like a bargain for you, under the circumstances. Not trying to be harsh here, but what do you really feel you have to complain about?

Don't like the noise from crying children? Bring earplugs. I will fly wherever I need with whoever I need, in this case, my child. If children under two fly free, they fly free. Where'd the tax come from?

It could come from a variety of different things. Lots of countries charge a "tax" or fee for international travel. Odds are you as a paying customer paid the same extra tax as the fleshy projectile you carried on but you paid yours up front rather than at the last minute.

Of course you will and of course you may, I never said otherwise. But YOU complaining about paying $12 for doing so makes YOU look like a clueless and arrogant asshole.

The tax came from the same magic and unexplored place that let's YOUR CHILD fly for free. By which I mean, if you magically don't question that, then please don't turn around and bleat like an abandoned heifer about a measly $12 charge for the privilege.

There's a price for everything. You flying with me on this point, cap'n? Can you gain the intellectual altitude to understand and then accept this basic point?

TBH children between the ages of 4 and 16 are MUCH MUCH MUCH worse on long airplane flights then babies

I suggest you get off your high horse. I'm paying more in luggage fees than the costs of the child to the airline.

The risk😛rice ratio is great too! Very few other places offer the amount of danger and risk that a lap baby encounters for $12!
