Your internet usage costs you provider $0.50 per gig downloaded.

So why is some of us paying $50/month.

Seems like a hugh profit margin.

Hopefully most of it goes to research and development and not CEO's

I have to wonder what is calculated into that per GB cost - are administrative fees, support costs, etc. all factored into there?

No way that includes everything, otherwise postage to mail your bill every month would account for 1/3 of their total costs.

This is equivalent to looking at the cost of pressing a CD + printing a retail box & bitching at Microsoft for charging $200 for Windows.

You have to pay for the cost of the lines too, it's expensive to run thousands of miles of cable accross a city and keep it maintained. But I am sure the profit margins are relitivly high, even though they gave me a free modem to use.

Software does exist to monitor and record such data. Some routers will also monitor your usage too.

shens. other countries like canada/korea have broadband that makes ours look like dialup. because of massive cheap bandwidth south koreans have had stuff like video on demand for a while now. either they are taking massive losses or theres some bs going on
