Hi all, I'm just wondering what security set ups you all got.

Here is mine. I have my HDD split into two partitions, one has Vista, the other Linux.

On my Vista, I got Avira AntiVir, Spybot, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, then my router firewall.

On linux I got nothing.

I use a non-Administrator user account combined with Software Restriction Policy as the foundation of the strategy. This combo is proactive (it can arbitrarily stop unknown threats). No performance hit, no cost, fantastically powerful, protects the rest of the security stuff from tampering or sabotage.

I also use full Data Execution Prevention, keep my stuff patched up, and use 64-bit Vista with UAC and IE7 Protected Mode. I arbitrarily block third-party cookies in IE.

Beyond that, I do use an antivirus software and the Windows Firewall as well, and I don't let anyone EVAR log onto my system as an Admin. If I weren't stuck on dial-up, I'd certainly use a router as well.

Yeah, pretty much how every *proper* corporate client side security model works. Makes me wonder where the other people in this thread have jobs.

What does Spywareblaster do again?

I'll take the non-admin account -vs- every other Windows "security" gadget in this thread combined, and still be 1,000x more secure.

I'm curious how Firefox and a Firewall are supposed to protect against rootkits.......Oh yeah....let your machine get nurfed, then wait for something to tell you after the fact.

Sandboxie for all my internet facing apps. with a custom config.
Firefox 3 with NoScript and AdBlockPlus

Passive/On-demand:
Returnil for on-demand system partition virtualization.
MVPS HOSTS file
SuperAntiSpyware on-demand scanning
MalwareBytes on-demand scanning

All downloads removed from Sandboxie are scanned by all 3 scanners and/or uploaded to VirusTotal and Jotti for scanning.

I try and keep my applications up to date by checking regularly with the online Secunia Software Inspector. http://secunia.com/software_inspector

And most importantly are my system images and data backups kept on an offline HDD.
 
Running Windows Vista with the firewall and all other security feautures turned on and NOD32, as well as my router. That's about it.

I have the same setup except I have a tipping point external firewall instead of a router, and Norton instead of Antivir
 
On my XP partition: All Windows patches, Spybot (but no Teatimer), Spyware Blaster, Antivir, Comodo Firewall + Defender, Adblock in Firefox
On Linux (Ubuntu 8.04): Firefox + NoScript and Adblock and I set up my IPTables using Firestarter - set to block incoming connections unless specifically allowed and same with outgoing unless specifically allowed.

And I guess my router has a firewall built into it.

Yes indeed. If you see a bicycle going down Highway 195 with lights so bright they look like they were stolen off a State Patrol car, that would probably be myself :evil:

Actually, pro truckers are my favorite people to share the road with, whether I'm riding or driving :beer: I wish everyone else drove with the level of care, forethought and responsibility that they do.
