it was the second time i had ever driven stick, i had tested a Mazda 3 prior to this for 5 minutes so i had very lil experience.

i hope into the F 350 dump bed diesel (no turbo, this was built before that) 4 speed.

i get 4 yds of mulch, and have to drive 45 min both ways to drop the load off, that was an experience, had to go down the highway, was pushing 3k rpm in a diesel 4th gear at 65mph. then i had to go down a fairly busy road, luckily no huge hills i got stuck on or anything.

how about you guys.
 
old mazda pickup truck. I couldn't get 1st gear down. Been driving my 5-speed MT Tacoma for 4 years now.
 
14 years old dad's 65 mustang. Drove it around in a parking lot with him for about half an hour. Started to get the hang of it by the end of the run. A lot of bucking of the car was invlolved, but once i learned to not be afraid to use the gas then engine pulled through.

My father let me shift his car while he drove since I was 4.

I was 12 the first time I actually drove one myself. It was a 1980s chevette. I don't remember the details.
 
Friend let me drive his Isuzu Rodeo with a worn out clutch around a parking lot for 20 minutes. Moved onto a Honda Civic and drove in traffic for a few miles. Of course I stalled it a couple of times. Then moved onto my friends Mach I with a Steeda Triax shifter...miserable experience. Didn't really start driving stick well till I got my own car.
 
No one will probably believe me, but I had to shut a buddy up when I was like 18 as to whether or not I could drive his Saab 900 5 speed without stalling it.. and I had never driven standard before. I'd seen it done enough times I knew I could drive it. I drove the car across town and back for about a 45 min round trip. Never stalled it once. 🙂 First time ever driving a manual. it really helps if you just know what to do in and out before you actually do it. The rest is getting used to the feel.
 
Uhm, probably after a couple days in a parking lot with my dad teaching me. Our family only has manual transmissions in our cars so I had to learn to drive on a stick as well.

I learned on dad's '89 Toyota Truck. Pretty easy to learn on IMHO.
 
Watched my dad for years driving sticks. He had an old Chevy pickup for awhile, with a 6 cylinder and 3-on-the-tree.
I had an understanding of how the mechanics of the stick worked, so when I got my license and my first Jeep, it was no problem. Never had a problem stalling or anything.
 
'83 Corolla (in 2001) when my sister decided to buy a winter beater. Never having driven standard my father and I took it out and I spent an hour stalling and screeching tires.

Been driving standard for 5 years since on a Mazda Protegé5 and RX-8 with no problems 😛
 
When I first got my car. It was a stick. My dad took me out to a parking lot to try and teach me but all he did was aggravate me so I just figured it out myself. I pretty much just jumped into the car the day I got my driver's licence and took off. Stalled a few times but I got the hang of it after a while.
 
Me and my dad's 2003 M3. OMG first time driving stick was scary as hell, esp with an M3. I was more scared about me breaking the damn thing than actually working it properly. Got on the freeway and accidentally let the clutch go at 55mph! scared the crap outta me (my dad thought I was ready to drive on the highway for some reason)!

 
97 Z28 6 speed. I didn't want it to die when I was on a hill stoplight. I gave it a little gas before letting off the clutch and the tires squealed. It scared the hell out of me at first. I was only 16.
 
brother's 93 stealth tt...killed it a few times trying to back up. that thing just takes off in reverse. wasn't bad after that though
 
don't really remember too much of it, it involved alcohol, girlfriend, and her Yugo. i know i got laid that night if that helps.
 
I learned to drive a car with a manual tranny ... already knew how to work a clutch from riding dirtbikes before I ever drove a car though.
 
My first, I really don't remember much about it, except that it was a 1953 Dodge pickup I bought from my cousin for $50!
3 speed "on the column".
The one I REALLY remember was the first time I drove a "Road Tractor" (Part that pulls the trailer on an 18 wheeler).
13 speed transmission, 1,2,3,4 &5, then shift up to the next 5, then split each one of them with a seperate button.
I jumped in, took off in second gear, made it to 5th gear then I was stuck!
Had to turn around and head back to the shop and ask the Head Mechanic how to shift the D**n thing!

I flew Huey helicopters in the Army, I always bragged that I could drive, fly, or operate anything that moves!

I was 14 and had never driven before. While working on my cousins farm, i was told to take the truck down 1 mile down the road and get some stuff from the other barn. I killed it once and then had it figured out.

 
I was 16, just got my drivers license a week before hand, my dad and I went out and bought an 82 BMW for me to drive around. We took it to an empty medical complex on a saturday, and twiddled around with it for half an hour. I'd start to get it, then lose it again. It was rather annoying, and my dad kept getting all kinds of pissed off.
 
First time I went to Germany. Company booked me a manual rental by mistake...had never driven one but knew how they worked, more or less. Drove it around the airport. I don't speak German, so none of the signs make sense. Got a little wise, parked the thing and booked me an automatic.

It was an Opel, and I really had to jam the clutch in hard to shift. I think I would have been all right if not for that. Stalling on the autobahn...probably not a good idea.

On the plus side, I got the automatical Opel up to 215km/hr downhill. Fastest I ever drove.
