Your first $300+ video card purchase

I was just recollecting my first ever $300 video card purchase. A GeForce4 Ti4600 in Summer 02. Man that card was the bomb... coupled to my spanking new A-XP 1700+

The only other card I've purchased topping the $300 marker was my AGP x800XL which I purchased close to its debut.

When was your first departure of $300+ USD for a pretty PCB w/ heatsinks & chips on it that makes cool things happen on your monitor?

400 for pny 6800 gt (new)

175 for x800 pro vivo (used)

around 300 for a BFG 6800 gt (new)

440 for eVGA 7800 gtx (used)

560 for 2 eVGA 7800 gt (new)

$$$? for a new 7900?

Yeah...I love my 7800GT And it was worth EVERY penny of the $359 I paid for it OKAY...OKAY...I didn't tell the "whole" truth. I got the card with a FREE mobo for $359 so I guess I "embellished" my story! I just went to "A Million Little Pieces" bwahhhhh Please don't tell Opra (she might chastise me on national tv!

I can't remember for sure, but it might have been the 3dfx 12MB Voodoo2, or the TnT 2 Ultra.

I paid $325 Cdn for my TNT2 Ultra (Viper V770)

It was badass for the time many cards after that were $300+ with my most recent being the highest by about $40 (over 2nd highest - $535 Cdn)

Why-Read that it can unlock to 16/6

Successfully unlocked to 16/6 and overclocked to 375/750. Scored over 10k in 03. Very pleased with it.

Went from a TNT2 to a Geforce 256...ooo that was a good day. The only other time was when I spent 300 to go from my Geforce3 to a 9700 Pro...that was probably the best performance increase I remember...I just remember how sweet 3dmark 01 was running...mmmmm

Ditto, but for me it was a Diamond Monster Voodoo1 at Best Buy, I assume around the same time.

I got one of those shiny Voodoo 5 5500's. To this day I don't think I've owned a more prestigious card. Well maybe if I had a voodoo 6000

The two most expensive cards I've owned were my GeForce2 Pro & 6800GT. All the other cards were quite cheap by comparison.

I havent bought any card for $300 or more. In fact, not even $200, but I always get more than what I paid for:

used 9800p for $180, modded into a 9800xt
x800 for $170 that didnt unlock or oc much, but it was a stopgap card anyways
x800gto for $180 that I promptly modded into a x800xt pe

Yes, I tend to get cards to overclock reasonably well also.

My Geforce2 Pro could almost match the Ultra, my GF3 Ti200 went well over stock GF3 speed (didn't quite match GF3 Ti500 though), my Geforce 4200 was an OC monster, went way, way past 4600 speeds with ease, my 5900 XT is nearly as good as a plain 5900 and my 6800GT happily does ultra speeds.

I didn't do much overclocking prior to GF2 so I've no idea how my GF1 or TNT series card would have OC'd.

I stuck to my rule, " I will never pay over 300 dollars for a video card"
