Haha, you guys crack me up.

First off, signs of intoxication are generally fairly obvious, regardless of the presence of a container. Second, all the RA (should) do is ask you, twice, if you've been drinking, ask for your IDs, inform you that you'll be documented for underage drinking, and leave it at that.

Unless, of course, you're an idiot and decide to do something stupid like... a) fall off a balcony... b) puke in a stairwell... c)... etc etc.

If you're unlucky and you get caught while dorm PD is on rounds with the RA, there can be one of two routes... if you're honest and compliant, they'll take the alcohol, write you up, and leave. If you're a dick about it, they can get authorization from their superiors and search the room, plus cite you for noncompliance with a police officer and either MIP or MIC.

<--stupid got drunk ran, through dorm, didn't know the head of the dorm was chasing me, never got caught, but the next day my roomate takes me to lunch ( I was still to drunk to be alone) and he sits us down at the same table as the head of the dorm and his wife. it was a southern baptist school, so they kinda frowned on the drinking.

<--more stupid tried to burn down the security guard hut.:) only blackened one side though

We DID hide it, but he said he knew we had it and if we didn't present it he was calling the cops.

Fvck him. I would have told him to eat a dick and call the cops. He didn't know sh!t. While he is calling the cops you pour it into a non-conspicious bottle and get rid of the 151 bottle. Dude c'mon this is stuff that you should know.

All that with people falling over each other, tripping into dressers, knowcking over playstations. RIGHT

Was anyone underage?

No one was OF age, hahaha.

Well then you still tell him to eat a dick and then you run and hide. No really if no one is of age then you tell the RA that people are leaving and they were drunk before they got there. No reason to waste 151.

Of course, that excuse works real well when the room reeks of alcohol, and there are various empty containers of alcohol in your wastebasket, shot glasses on the desk, etc etc.

First year RA: MAJOR player who was too busy "entertaining" women to care
Second Year RA: Nerdy dude, but he was cool. I think he just wanted free housing.

THird Year RA: Major screwy dude. I actually had to give him a ride home from a party once because HE was wasted. Let's just say he never bothered me...

Finally, i moved out of the dorms to apartments after that :)

There is NOTHING worse than a bad RA, that can completely destroy college for some people. floors above and below me always had jerk-off's who would "patrol" for noise violations, boy am i glad i lived on the floor i did....

I'm sure you'll be fine. In the future learn how to drink responsibly. And by responsibly I mean keep your door locked and when the monitor prick comes along hide the booze real quick :D

Hahahaha, those are the worst. There are a few RA's like that in my building... gotta learn to be a little more laid back about the whole job.

At the same time, there are some policies that are there for a reason.

Did you have balconies in the dorms at your school?

Mmmm your RAs suck. We have a "spontaneous social gathering" in this lounge at the end of one hallway every friday night, many people not of age, and the RA knows that if she just stays away from there she won't have to bust anyone. So she doesn't. And also, as long as she doesn't see you walking around with an actual bottle and you just have stuff in a cup she'll ignore it. She's cool.

It's cool until a) someone passes out from alcohol poisoning, b) gets raped, or c) falls out of a window or balcony. You think that RA's get hired to play watchdog or some bullsh!t like that, we don't. We get hired to enforce policies that were put in place for your safety.

We don't "like" busting people, we don't "enjoy" confronting belligerent idiots who think they're untouchable. We don't like calling the cops on potheads. I would much rather spend my evenings hanging out, having a good time with my residents (and I do, actually). But for a couple residents who choose to smoke pot, they will get the cops called. For those residents who lie about what they've been drinking, when we can clearly smell the alcohol in the room and see that you're intoxicated, we will write you up, or, if necessary, call the police.

Most RAs don't play games with you; don't play games with us.

Our little gatherings on Friday nights aren't some huge raucous party with loud music, 20 people getting wasted and puking everywhere, etc. It's just like 10 or so regulars and some other people who drop by and we just sit around and hang out and get a little buzzed. This is a very close community and I have never heard of anyone getting raped in any of the houses, especially this one. No one has ever passed out when i've been there and there aren't any windows or balconies to fall out of. We just hang out and keep to ourselves and have fun, and our RA respects that and let's us do it because we never cause any trouble. That, to me, makes her a cool RA.

There is also something to be said for someone who knows when to let something go.

It's a fine balance.

Some of you are really retarded, if you read any of the thread you would know the circumstances.

Zakath15, I respect RAs and the job they have to do, and I know they have to put up with a lot of sh!t. My RA stopped by today and told us that he was sorry how HE acted last night. He said he was sorry for breaking it up but we were being loud, and if he didn't break it up, an RA would have heard it on another floor and then it would have been his ass. We told him we would not be drinking on his floor anymore, and he said thanks. Awesome. :)

On a nice and warm spring evening my friend Mike and I were sitting by my dorm, passing a bottle of rum and a cough cigarette, cough between us and a cop walked up. He smiled, said "Nice evening" and walked away.

nope. that would've spelt disaster. heheh

That's exactly why most schools take drinking and drug use very seriously. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt or killed by falling off a balcony, out a window, etc. It's happened at my school, at WSU, at WWU, and other schools.

These rules are made for a reason.
