Can you pull your head out of your ass, or is it permanent?

It may be terminal, the results havent come back yet, but the threads that got locked up about me asking a question about a member I didnt understand. No note was left for me by the Mod. Excuse me for having less than 21000 posts. I just dont "all of a sudden know everything about this forum" esp cause there are no rules posted.

My problem with them, is that esp on my campus, UW madison, they get all proud about it and shove it in my face. My feelings are if you are gonna be gay, then be gay but I don't want to hear about it or know about it. I dont go running around shoving into gay peoples faces that I am a heterosexual. As far as the whole judgement/god thing thats for him to sort out after they die, assuming he exists. I just was wondering what some of your inputs were on the matter of why gays and lesbians feel it manditory to shove their homosexuality in the face of all other heterosexuals. In my opinion, it causes a lot of extra problems for them.

Gobadgrs -

I've been going to UW for 4 years, and have lived in Madison my whole life, and I must say that I have never once seen homosexuality "shoved" in my face. Where on campus have you seen these displays? at the bars? in a dorm? on state street? around the capitol? I can' t say that in my 22 years of existence I've ever even seen a gay couple in Madison...

choice of lifestyle...
that's one of the biggest problems homosexuals have to overcome, to convince people it isn't a choice of lifestyle. why would anyone choose a lifestyle that would cause them so much pain? it'd be like someone choosing to be black in the south during the 1950s.

its not about shoving it in your face its about raising awareness so taht people like you who might not necessarily be gay realise that its okay and normal and not disgusting.

Exactly. People hate and detest what they do not understand.
As long as ignorant, hateful people keep up with the gay bashing, the gays are obligated to increase awareness among people and convince them that they're not "digusting" or child molesters.

It's not like they're ever going to go away or disappear. Might as well get used to them.

To put it in perspective, think about the black rights movement. Black people were once considered "evil" and "unclean" because of their skin color. Now (most) people don't even give skin color a second thought.

Yes, Red, it is ok and normal. Gay people have been around as long as heterosexuals. If you were around in Romans time, even you probably would have tasted pecker too.

Homosexuality even occurs in animals other than humans. There have been documented cases of gay dolphins.

About homosexuality being disgusting, it's really a matter of prefrence. I'm sure to a gay guy the thought of a vagina is disgusting, as well as a man and a woman having sex.

no one is being asked to be gay. afaic being gay is the right thing for some. it's not for me, but in some cases "disgusting" and "normal" are relative terms. gay people aren't threatening heterosexuals or their children; heterosexuals make way too big a deal about it. someone's gay, that's nice, move on. once the majority of heterosexuals act this way, gay people won't "throw it in their faces."

YetioDoom, Do you live in a cave off the tip of point?

There are LGB flyers all over. Take a peek at a kiosk once in a while. I think what GoBadgers is getting at is that it's not as though there's a herterosexual parade. There aren't "hetero" dances and while one can claim that the "regular" dances or events are inherantly exclusionary of the LGB community, I would argue that at this point and especially at Madison, it's a self-imposed exclusion more than it is a the other way around.

That doesn't make it normal. I think being homosexual is fine, but it certainly isn't normal. The normal relationship is between male and female, so the specices can propogate. If everyone was homosexual the human race would die out.

But just because something isn't "normal" doesn't mean it is bad.

While we're on the subject of gays...this question has always been on my mind:

Why is it that gay men are always so neat (as in tidy, mind you). Have you ever seen a gay man that was a complete slob? Or had long, unkept hair?

I just find it so strange that their lifestyles are all so similar. I read this article once in the Village Voice about this guy describing his apartment and I read something about how he cooks these elaborate dishes, and for some reason, the thought of "I wonder if he's gay" came up into my mind (This is of course not to say that all guys that can cook are gay. It was just the way the man managed to put it in words). Sure enough, near the end of the article, he mentions that he lives with his male companion and I just thought it so weird that you read about some guy's lifestyle without even looking at him or knowing him and come up with a notion of his sexual orientation.

I think there are certain lifestyles that are proven psychological or physical disorders - such as the "obese awareness" organizations, etc. There's no proof that homosexuality is a disorder.

I had a thought today in training while we were talking about this (RA training, you freaks, :p)... what if the homosexual tendencies began to emerge in the human race as a result of society's abandonment of certain children? Just a random idea, not all that thought out, but it's possible... what if all stable, monogamous homosexual couples chose to adopt one child? What would that do for the plight of children in contemporary society?

Homosexuality used to be a disorder, perhaps I phrased it tongue in cheek, but what type of currently deviant behavior will be considered normal next?
