So you're saying that wanting to experience more instead of being stagnated by tradition causes depression?
If so, you got it backwards buddy.
If you have the faintest understanding of the scientific research behind depression, you'll realize that experiencing more and having a stimulating environment is the antithesis of depression.

People that find it too much work to celebrate a holiday are most likely not taking the time to experience much else either. The behavior sets a precedent.

In all fairness Christmas is a christian celebration in origin, and with the world being more and more pluralist it's only right that fewer people are interested in celebrating it, particularly if your'e not raised to be interested in christian things.

change of traditions is just that. ya know xmas and halloween has not always been celebrated the same way it has been known to many of us growing up. Traditions change all the time gradually.
Some people have ham instead of Turkey on Thanksgiving, fewer decorate for it, but either way this a time of year for hard depressions among adults nowadays and that will change it even more

nothing wrong with changes in traditions, its the old fogies that never want to change

Son, Christmas is Yuletide, you're a fucking Englishman, you should know that we celebrated the winter solstice long before anyone knew what a Christan was.

It's a tradition stolen by Christians and made into one of theirs.

Jesus was born sometime in the spring, why the fuck would they celebrate that in the winter?

A very good point, and don't get me wrong I love christmas as much as any englishman damn well should, but with the "christainisation" of christmas, you can see why some people become disillusioned.

What about the other holiday seasons?

Well Haloween, is some crap americans made up (the modern one, with pumkins and dressing up etc) easter = christian, valentines day = card company crap. New years eve? I think everyone enjoys that.

Am I missing any?

You sound pretty depressed.

Why, you have your Yuletree, you have decorations and lights made to welcome the light back, all parts of it are based on the tradition of Yule, not the birth of Jesus, well unless you think that Jesus is Santa.

Nope not at the mo, I'm doing brilliant, I just don't care about haloween/ easter/ card company holidays. I loooove christmas, but thats because it's a tradition my family adheres to, i can understand families that don't.

Another good point, and I'm not trying to argue that the basis of various parts of christmas is specifically christian, they arn't buuuut some people will only know christmas as a christian holiday (unless they've done the research) as a result they may not be that interested.

So fuckem, why would you even care?

Lol I just liked to point out there are valid reasons for not being interested in traditions, it's the same reason I hate sunday trading laws.

Well that is an instituted law, that's quite differnt.

Traditions are what you make them, so make Christmas your tradition where you celebrate what is useful to celebrate for you.

For me it's about family but i suppose you need to be a kid or have kids to really be into that.

Exactly right, I have made Christmas about me, but to some people I can see why they haven't. To take another maybe more relevant example. Halloween. Means nothing to me but some people have made it their own regardless of the American origins.

I used to not care about holidays and stuff, until I was with my ex, and realized it's just an excuse to do something special with loved ones. But without someone to spend the holidays with, they are still pointless.

December holidays in Europe = the shit.

This man knows the truth, listen to him.

younger generation sucks, forgetting everything, bla bla bla.

There has GOT to be a phrase that sums up this mode of thinking.

What if you think about it for a moment, how much do you truly remember from your grandfather's generation? Unless preserved and actively taught, human knowledge fades away very very quickly, and its amazing how people's perspectives can change so quickly in a matter of a few decades.
