Whenever I Google midgets, I get those little sprint cars... which ARE pretty damn cool, but not what I'm looking for.

No... Because THAT would've been newsworthy. 😉

I think the guy was a midget and not just a small person. The big laugh around the police station is the fact the guy tried to run away from the scene. He couldn't run, though. Because his legs were about 1 foot tall each. That brings up another potential charge, though... Fleeing the scene of an accident. I'm sorry. Did they just feel sorry for this guy because of his condition and just took it easy on him?

Just a PSA for those who haven't personally known anyone who is a dwarf, but they usually prefer to be referred to as "dwarf" or "little person". Most find it *really* offensive to be called midget.

you're right, i never did think i would see a midget steal a car... thats crazy, and then to have him cause an accident on top of that, to somone i know! damn, thats like 100000000/1 odds of that happening, thats crazy, absolutly crazy...

aren't dwarfs and midgets two different things and they get really offended if you mix up the terms?

No. Midget is a derogatory term for someone who is small. Replace the terms "dwarf" and "midget" in your post with "black person" and "n***er" or with "homosexual" and "f@g" to try it on for size.

who decided that? the midgets/dwarves? i would think dwarves would be more insulting, as if to imply that you don't really exist, because you're often featured in fairy tales and such.

I don't know. To be honest, my grandma was pretty upset when she and my uncle were finally diagnosed as achondroplastic dwarfs (she made it to adulthood without a doctor officially calling her anything but small, even though she was sent to the Mayo Clinic as a small child.) It is a medical term, which makes it more palatable, I guess. Midget is not used by the medical community, just by people who are generally using the term to make fun of them.

From a Little People website:
Midget: In some circles, a midget is the term used for a proportionate dwarf. that is, a short-stature condition that results in the arms, legs, trunk, and head being the same size in relation to each other as would be expected with an average-size person -- is often the result of a hormonal deficiency, and may be treated medically.

I think this is the best part:
Most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label.

Of course, if I just came in here and told you all that Earl Jackson stole a car, you'd have no idea why that would matter.

Midget:
1. Offensive. An extremely small person who is otherwise normally proportioned.
2. A small or miniature version of something.
3. A class of small objects, as a class of very small sailboats or racing cars.

Dwarf:
1. An abnormally small person, often having limbs and features atypically proportioned or formed.
2. An atypically small animal or plant.
2. A small creature resembling a human, often ugly, appearing in legends and fairy tales.
3. A dwarf star.

Well wtf? These people would rather be called a "small creature resembling a human, often ugly" than a Midget? I'd be doing them a favor by not calling them dwarves.
