RIP John!

Hard to believe he has been gone 30yrs 🙁

I like to think he would have continued his prolific creativity and would have created many more hits, he was just too good of a song writer not too.

Still makes me angry to this day that he was taken from us by a worthless selfish wack job

I think it's one of the worst lyrics of all time. The tune is catchy, but most people don't realize he's singing about how he wishes the world was a godless communist hippie-fest .

you prefer a world of sandy vaginas, obviously.

Bullshit that's your utopia. You'd fucking commit suicide or OD on heroin. There's no way you'd rather live in a fucking farm eating veggies than sitting on your couch watching the game on a 50" LCD sipping down a cold brew.

actually, there are plenty of people in this world that do prefer that.

the difference between your brand of fundy conservatism and the brand of ultra liberalism that you actively despise, is that you seem to think that the world, and everyone in it, subscribe to the same ideals and desires in life that you subscribe to. Liberals are more concerned with people living how they want to live--as individuals. you wouldn't advocate "government conditioning" publicly to make such a world possible, but you would support it in slience b/c it's the only way to see the boring, dual-class world (5% wealthy, 95% working class poverty) that you desire become a reality.

amazing, to me, that people like you and spidey so honestly believe that they way you live your life is the way that everyone else wants to live their lives. Further, you tend to support ideas that would force others to live as such, but how to accomplish that without government intervention is beyond me--as you guys claim to hate government while you want it so, so, so much.

"Liberal" just means open minded.

It has only become an insult in recent years with tabloid journalism and hate based politics designed to garner support in an almost Orwellian "Us vs Them" mentality. You get to avoid all the difficult issues when you point your finger at someone else and scream bloody murder about Jesus.

As for the lyrics, it's a SONG! There are MANY MANY MANY songs out there with absolutely USELESS lyrics that show no effort other than to take a common conversation and set it to music (or not even music, just to a beat and an annoying vamp in the background).

Lenon's stuff was a bit fluffy at times, but it was some pretty good fluff when you take the time and situation.

Calling for universal peace and harmony is not a bad thing. Doing so by hugging flowers may be, but not by asking everybody to stop shooting at each other.

You can add Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Dr Laura, and a host of other talking head idiots for that too. Of course, you have to fault the fools who follow these idiots too.

Your interpretation is jaded. He is talking about the world being as one, as in living in harmony. Peace. That is something that is the basis for a lot of his songs.

Don't mind JS80, he pretends he's a Christian but REALLY hates the message that Jesus brought forth about peace and sharing (which coincidentally is also the basis of Lennons song).

Personally, i prefer Motorhead. 😉

Isn't it ironic how it is nearly always the rich who are pushing that type of world while the working man wants more money and more possessions.

It's easy to wax on poetically about how great the world could be when you don't have to worry about anything.

BTW Lennon was brilliant and his death might be the greatest tragedy in the history of popular music.

Lennon, Buddy Holly and Glenn Miller are probably the only musicians to die at or near the peak of the creative and commercial career.

I assume that is why it's always the rich who favor more taxes and pays the largest percentage of their earnings to charity? Perhaps not, huh?

I'd say that the greediest of all is the upper middleclass and i doubt anyone is unaware of that being the truth.

You have some strange form of TPS that seems to exist only in the US.

Really? How about Jimi Hendrix? There is a metric fuckton of others that died at the peak of their career.

he was overrated. his solo stuff sucked and I'd consider Jimmy Hendrix death more tragic.

more tragic?

Hendrix died in a pool of his own vomit after a bender.

Lenon was assassinated by a loony toon anarchist that suspiciously resembled JS80.

also, Lenon contributed way more to music and world peace than did Hendrix.

I like Hendrix, of course...but your concept of tragedy leaves me a bit perplexed.

Hendrix was the man though. 🙂

and what exactly did Lenon do to contribute to world peace?

I'm going to go right ahead and assume that you are more of a Hendrix fan than a Lennon fan because of the music, i know i am, but that doesn't change the fact that Lennons songs and his efforts for peace still ring quite clear to most people in any kind of peace movement.

I should know, i get to hear it all the time.

I'd still like to know what he did to help world peace besides write songs about it

Probably nothing aside from getting people to think of it on occasion. Hmmm, even getting others to think of it on occassion is an accomplishment. What accomplishment can you boast about?
