Today is the 30th anniversary of his death.

What do you think John Lennon would be doing today if he was still alive?

Probably the same as McCartney - ie nothing of interest.
I don't put him on the same level as McCartney. Their song writing is worlds apart.

If he were alive today I think he would still be writing, singing, and still having an impact on a whole new generation of listeners.

Imagine is one of the greatest songs of all time. Hopefully he would still be pushing his message if still alive today. It is soarly needed.

I think it's one of the worst lyrics of all time. The tune is catchy, but most people don't realize he's singing about how he wishes the world was a godless communist hippie-fest .

Thought I might be the only one here who remembered. That night is seared into my memory like the morning on 9/11. I was doing homework with Monday Night Football [Pats vs Dolphins] on in the background. I thought I was dreaming, that Howard Cosell had to be lying. It was a tremendous shock.

If John hadn't been murdered he'd have continued to make great music, art & raised his kids. Hopefully being more involved in Julian's life as well as Sean's.

I think he was a talented individual...

A bit messed up, but remarkably stable for someone who went through the fame and scrutiny that he did.

The whole Yoko and "Number 9" (not directly related) thing was just plain stupid though. You can love a woman WITHOUT lying to her about her singing voice! Ugh, there are dogs in heaven still howling at that.

Comparing to McCartney? I think they were different. Lennon was more lyrical, McCartney was more the showman. You can hear that on tracks from Abbey Road. Then you get Ringo doing the Octapus......whatever.

I think they were talented musicians with great voices (except Ringo... 😛) and they each had their own problems.

Will I lose any sleep because of his loss? No.

Hendrix was a bigger loss, I think, than Lennon, but then again, his was of his own doing. 🙁

He is singing about my utopia. It's a pipe dream in reality but i sure wouldnt pass it up if it was presented before me.

Bullshit that's your utopia. You'd fucking commit suicide or OD on heroin. There's no way you'd rather live in a fucking farm eating veggies than sitting on your couch watching the game on a 50" LCD sipping down a cold brew.

We could use more John Lennons and fewer Imadinnerjackets & Kim Jong Ils in this world.

I would love to hear his comments on what is happening in the world today and the US in particular.

I think that most people who half a brain do realize what he's singing about.

But really, it isn't all a bad idea (see bold).
