for chronic pain, its indeed the only route for some. but just with everything in life its abused and giving an automatic negative stigma.

 
The lady was a humpback (really bad too, she was twisted not only to the front but to one side; not sure she could bend her neck enough to look on the other side) so it's quite possible she's taking it as a pain killer.
