You know you're outgrowing games when...

...when you are lucky enough to get beta for both Diablo III & Dota 2. And I also Skyrim.

But none of them are as interesting anymore. I actually find myself just browsing the net instead.

I like going out, but I do prefer just being comfortable at home playing games. But recently, even with these games I'm just bored and wanting to go out instead.

Am I the only one? I'm gonna be 30 soon, jesus.

Having too many choices (games, in this case) can do that to you, yes.

I'm in on the DotA 2 beta...still enjoying it. Go out on the weekends, play a few games during the week, works for me.

If you're not playing, you should give me your invites. 😉

No, I got them gradually. I was bored with them one by one.

I used to be terribly addicted to Dota, not anymore.
TBH I am in a similar boat to you (loads of games ready and yet not as enthusiastic as I would have been back a few years ago). I am fully aware this is caused by having so much things to do outside gaming (job, house work, professional study, cooking, social life, etc) with the ensuing mental effect.

I know if I were to have more time (quit my job, for example -but I can't live without the income-), it would be gaming haven for me. :whiste:

p.s. And btw, I am older than you

I also realized I'm no longer liking 'new stuff' in games like an old man.

When I was a teen or in my 20s, I loved trying new games and figuring out their system, etc.

Nowadays when I play a new game or even a slightly new game like DIII (pretty much same interface as DII), I sigh because it's become a hassle for me to get used to it. And I can't enjoy it until I"m used to it.

I don't even sign up for betas anymore, much less get into them. The only games I own are Forza, Forza 2, Forza 3, and now Forza 4.

Instead of gaming so much, now I spend more time doing real life activities, such as sexual intercourse.

im 33 and spend a tiny fraction of the amount of time on games than I used to. But its still fun to get sucked into a game like skyrim!

i'm 31 and those are my sentiments exactly! i probably only play 2-3 hours a week and mostly older games where i'm already comfortable with the mechanics.

I bought the latest MW3 game on the PS3 but it feels so damn slow. Am I getting old?

it was slow, it just didn't live up to the magnificantly awesome MW1 and MW2. can't blame Infinity Ward though, they had their best behind. now lets move on to the next franchise.

This happens, what used to be a gaming addiction may lessen, but they'll always be there and you'll see them more as a casual hobby than a 4 hours/day like they used to be 🙂

I got a BETA key when I played WoW for Cataclysm. I didn't even use it, I thought why would I want to grind levels twice? I hate BETA's

Psst, those are all exactly the same game. Next franchise will be essentially the same game as well, with a different name stamped on the box. With a 70USD price tag instead of a 60 USD price tag.

I know Diablo III. I was a Diablo 1 junkie when it was first released. I know Skyrim. But I have no idea what DOTA 2 is. Does that make me old?

I can understand not wanting to play the D3 beta. After all, you don't get to keep your levels or items when the final version is released. I don't think Skyrim is for everybody either. It was my 1st ES game. It was ok. I put 80+ hours into it. But most of it feels like an offline MMO. Since there isn't any progression in DotA, I'd think one would be more interested in playing that beta.

While playing Skyrim constantly for the past 2 weeks (not including thanksgiving week, was away from the computer) I kept thinking about the web browsing I was missing in the back of my head. Before Skyrim, there hadn't been anything interesting out to play for a while, so I had been spending a lot of time browsing the web. I think you just get used to it and you always think about what you are missing out on when you switch tasks. Kind of like when I go out with friends, I'm often thinking about the game I'm not playing at home.

I've found myself getting bored with games lately. I own all the consoles and a pc for gaming and I just don't do it is much anymore. It's weird because I will get super hyped for games like MW3, I wait in line for hours to have it at launch, take the next day off and play it non stop for 2 days, and I haven't toched it since. I was the same way with black ops, gran turismo 5, my kinect.

I get hyped for the PS Vita and I know I want one but the same thing will happen with that too. I guess at 31 I'm either getting bored with video games or it's becoming harder to find something the holds my interest.

DOTA was a custom map on Warcraft 3. It got pretty popular and spawned a new genre. Games like League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and Demigod came from DOTA. Now Valve is releasing their version, DOTA 2.

ive been bored with a lot of game types over the years and ive definetly been a jaded gamer in the past. But now, after having a family and getting my PC gaming hobby pushed on the back burner for the past few years, im finding that fire in my belly for games heating up. Im excited for when my kids are older and we can sit down and play games together. Im looking forward to building them all PC's and having sweet 4 man co-op and deathmatch sessions.
In the mean time, what little time i can find to play games, its really just been the classics i have a soft spot for. I dont have any interest in most new games.

Oh.

I thought DotA was another game, not the custom map where server owners would boot you out if you were DLing it because they were snobby obnoxious purists.

BTW, 30 is nothing. What I find myself doing a lot of the time is playing games where you really do not have to worry much and you have PEOPLE you like to play against.

TF2 is the big one for me. I have a bunch of others, but most are either single player (Deux Ex 2), or just not as engrossing. I got the whole Total War package a while back and have not played a single one... 🙁

TIME is also a concern. With a house and a 3yo... it is hard to play anything worthwhile in the 1:30 between coming home from work, getting dinner/etc, and bed.... and your wife certainly doesnot appreciate you bugging out to play ASAP.....

So whatever. If you think you are getting old because of that, you are still not there yet.

Old would be when it takes you 2X longer (or more!) to upgrade your hardware.....

i turned 30 Sunday and i still love games 😛

the only genre i love but am kind of burnt out of right now is fighting games, but that was because i was playing them pretty competitively the past 2-3 years or so. i went to vegas for the big fighting tourney in July, and since then I still haven't really been into them. i still watch tourney streams and stuff but for some reason I don't have that urge to play. i'm hoping that soon fades and I can get back into it because it's extremely fun.
