I still like gaming as much as I used to but just find I don't have he time to invest anymore. That's probably why I'm more of a console gamer that takes a month to finish a game like LA Noire now. The good news is that means games are typically cheap by the time I get to them.

One thing that's funny about the whole situation is back when I gamed a lot I was poor so buying new games was tough. Now that i can easily afford new games I don't have the time to play!

I was gonna upgrade my 2 yo $500 PC once more (HD4850, Phenom X3 OC'ed), but seeing as it handles next-gen strat games, I won't even bother.

It plays Diablo III with minimal slow downs. Skyrim (30-35fps) and Dota 2 (60-70fps) runs BEAUTIFULLY on this aging budget system.

And I don't even think I'd get into DIII. I'm too old to get sucked into it like a zombie... living together with GF, proposing soon, etc...

I'm 29 and I get bored with a lot of games too, but I think it's just because I have so much gaming experience that very few games feel new anymore. I'm playing Deus Ex 3 right now and it's a blast, and I just looked at my play time on borderlands and I've put over 150 hours into that game over the last few months. At the same time I bought 10-15 games on steam sales that bored me to tears. These are all games that are well known and positively reviewed, but I just couldn't get into them.

It isn't some sort of switch in your brain that turns off around the age of 30, but rather that the older you get and the more gaming experience you have under your belt, the harder you are to please.

i'm 41. i play mw3 on xbox live every night since i bought it release day. before that i used to play sc2 on the pc every night when possible since i upgraded my gpu over the summer. i pre-ordered the old republic and will probably play that every night when the early access starts. unfortunately, i can't start playing until after the kids and the wife are asleep so all this gaming means that i am sacrificing my own sleep and am exhausted the next day at work. thank goodness for free coffee.

imo, if you're a gamer, you don't ever really outgrow games. the games themselves just aren't as interesting anymore. it's just like hollywood with rehashing formulaic movies. or tv with uninspiring content. any entertainment industry that saturates its market will eventually lack anything genuinely interesting. even in your OP the two games you reference are both sequels.

I'm 31 and I'm just pickier with games vs when I was younger. I pretty much don't play any linear games or any games with excessive cutscenes in them.

I'm not as enamored with playing games as I used to be, but it's still a very important part of my free time. A stretch when I'm not playing anything is a bad thing...depression kicks in and it makes me lose interest in things, even gaming. My psyche plays hardball with itself.

The lack of good multiplayer is a problem. I can find plenty to distract myself in SP games, even with lots of retro game time, but I do like some interaction. The problem is with the shift to console multiplayer it's really hard to find something and stick with it. There's so much FPS saturation in the market on top of matchmaking, which I consider the worst method of multiplayer EVER. EVE was the last multiplayer I really got into, but it's only really good in large groups.

I used to have this issue more when I had to many options honestly.

Now days I find that it's better for me to just buy one game and play it through before moving onto the next.

Of course the the FPS multiplayers like MW3 that'll get played until the next one comes out more than likely, at least that's what I did with Blops. I'd take a break from Blops to play through some other new game, finish that then play Blops again until the next game came around I wanted enough to spend the money on.

I blame Valve.

Cool, episodes of Half-Life 2! That should mean more frequent releases!

Meanwhile, Duke Nukem Forever has been released, and we're still waiting for Episode 3.

^^Comparing 4 years of HL2 hiatus to DNF's 14-year development hell and comparative flop (which even includes the release of HL1) is ridiculous. Blame would go squarely to Gearbox & Co.

I've never been a true gamer, but now that I'm in my 30' s I'm starting to enjoy games more,.. Maybe it's just my mid-life Crysis...

ehh, I just started playing Assassins Creed: Revelations this morning and I gotta say, just the intro cinematic gave me a semi-chubby. I would say fewer games interest me these days, but those that do certainly still keep my attention.

I am in the same boat. I actually have a little time each night, but just don't seem to be interested in gaming. I will find something on Hulu or Netflix to watch and do that until I am ready for bed.

Same boat here though not late 20s yet. I have games galore to play but I spend my free time surfing the internet and refreshing ATOT rather then boot up a game and play.

Same here. I have a huge Steam backlog and all the new releases, and I don't really have anything against any of the games I've tried recently, but I'd rather watch episodes of How I Met Your Mother than play Skyrim or Saints Row Three. I guess I just feel like I'm making a big commitment when I start up a game, whereas with a TV show I can just pause at any time and walk away.

Normal males would lose interest in gaming once they hit puberty & discovered girls.
But this IS ATOT.

My backlog is insane :

Skyrim
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age (1 + 2)
Halo (3 + Reach + ODST)
Assassin's Creed (2 + 3 + 4)
Fallout (Tactics + 3 + NV)
Stalker COP (half-way through this)
Metro 2033
Crysis 2
Warcraft III
...
probably a crapload more that I can't think of atm

Currently working on finishing Oblivion. Worth waiting all this time - played it right from the get go with Qarl's texture pack, unique landscapes, francesco's mod, etc.

I lay a fair bit of blame on :

Real-Life
Guild Wars
TF2 (1500+ hours!)

I'm the same way. Saints Row 3 was fun, but I still haven't finished Mass Effect 1. Games just feel like a chore now.

...when you are lucky enough to get beta for both Diablo III & Dota 2. And I also Skyrim.

But none of them are as interesting anymore. I actually find myself just browsing the net instead.

I like going out, but I do prefer just being comfortable at home playing games. But recently, even with these games I'm just bored and wanting to go out instead.

Am I the only one? I'm gonna be 30 soon, jesus.

its because you realize its just the same thing..new skin.

That's because they are not that good not that you are getting old. Cartoonization of Diablo (there is fucking rainbows in diablo 3!!!), Consolization and dated graphics of Skyrim etc. sux

I am 'old' late 30s and been playing SC2 a year straight. It's only half as good as BW, the most perfect game of all time, - but still much better than most modern reincarnations of franchises.

No one wants to admit they ruin these franchises and in many cases are living off past success. Sales are created by a feedback loop. Like a movie everyone goes to see and you walk out thinking "that sucked." many games are the same way.
